I need help with pricing

I have been viewing this web site for some time now and everyone here is very helpful. I am waiting for my lease to end so I can get myself a new e90.

My problem is that my wife wants a new x5 and was wondering if someone new of a dealer in Southern California that is willing to take a decent amount of money off the MSRP and how much.

I am assuming that it will not be that hard due to the fact that this model is almost in the last year its current design cycle.

Thanks for the help.

Look for the X5 pricing PDF on the second post. Do yourself a favor, negociate a specific price rather than X amount over invoice. There is a few people on the forum that are upset when the E90 pricing was increased and now have to incur those costs. Use the invoice price (add dest charge) and give make an offer with a fair amount of profit added.

I wasn't aware of any e90 price increase. Can you elaborate?

What would you say "a fair amount of profit is"

The MSRP on mine is 36,115... and the invoice is closer to 32k...

What would you say a fair amount of profit is on that?

Thank's a lot for your help!

Isn't the current price list posted on this site as a sticky by Jwocky on 6-21 still current? The invoice prices on the E90 for the 325 and 330 RWD sedans haven't changed for at least several weeks as far as I can tell.

A fair profit is usually about 3% of the invoice price of the car. So on an E90 330i you would ask for something between $1000 and $1700 over invoice.

I think ATC was referring to the BASE price incease from the E46 to the E90, even though it was minor considering the increases in standard equipment.

Nope, some people are having problems because they negociated a specific amount above invoice. I guess the invoice went up and so did the price of the car.

I read this entire thread. It sounds like the price increases were for 5-series cars, not the new E90. So no one was upset about E90 price changes. The point of the thread referenced seems to be that if you agree on a price in a negotiation but you haven't funded the deal yet, the deal price can change. In this case, because BMW NA made a pricing adjustment which trickles down to the dealer and then to the customer.

Fair Profit

I think the definition of "fair" depends on how much of the dealers time you consume.
If you have no idea of what you want, and take every car on the lot out for a test, they should be getting full msrp (or more)

If you know exactly what you want, and what Invoice is, you should be getting a better deal.

When I went to the dealer I purchased the car from, I went with a list of what I wanted, colors options, etc. No trade in, cash deal. I talked to the general manger, negotiated a profit, and placed the order. In and out in 20 minutes.

Athos,
I stand corrected, thanks for clearing it up for everyone. The point is, tell the dealer you want to pay a specific amount.
