iOS 11 not working in the 1er.
Hey everyone,
Ever since I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 11 my car is not recognizing the device via USB to lightning. The Bluetooth still recognizes my phone and allows me to talk on the phone through the car, but I can't play music (I've never been able to play music via Bluetooth. I've always needed USB to lightning). It worked just fine until I updated my phone. 2013 135i with nav and idrive. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any known fixes? Thanks in advance for any help on this. -Mr. Pharaoh |

I haven't upgraded to ios11 yet though. This gives me even more reason not to.

I think they are. Cars with combox can use WMA2000 which I cannot find anywhere. Cars without combox need WMA3000 which is available from many places. I sent the company an email about the 2000 version.

Ohhhh! My bad. I don't know why my brain went dead on your last comment. So can a car with 6VC still use a WMA3000? From what I have read, as long as you have the USB and AUX hook up under the arm rest, the 3000 should work fine.

I've wanted to do a bluetooth option since the 2011 135i didn't come with pretty much anything. Does the tune2air plug into the usb in the glovebox and work perfectly fine? I would assume you connect via the CD option.

iOS 11 works fine here. Maybe you need a software update or something.
I have issues sometimes but nothing that couldn't be attributed Apple's stuff glitching out on me in every car other too. |

+1 for the Tune2Air. It works great and for those of us without I-drive one great thing about it is that you can run pandora and the iPhone turn-by-turn mapping directions work over the music.
I use one of these mounts. It fits in the CD slot and holds the phone well. Koomus Pro CD Universal CD Slot Smartphone Car Mount Holder for all iPhone and Android Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010NYXETQ..._kmveAbDSHX96Y

Have you tried updating the firmware for the infotainment system? I updated to iOS 11 on my iPod Touch. It's been working fine for a bit until recently I was getting some weird disconnects. I have the Touch wired to the USB port under the armrest. I went to BMW's website and found there is indeed a firmware update. Looks like I was one version or so behind. Since owning my car, I've had the firmware updated once by the dealer and once before this recent one by myself. So that's three firmware updates.
As far as the unstable connectivity to my Touch, so far so good. |

Where are the firmware updates available? And could they also apply to non-nav cars? Not the same file obviously, but does the regular radio get updates?

https://www.bmw.com/content/bmw/mark...e-updates.html You'll have to plug in your last 7 of your VIN. It'll spit back at you if there is firmware available for you. And then you have to agree to some terms and it'll download. Not sure if there are any updates for non iDrive/nav cars. But entering your VIN will give you your answer. For those trying this. Make sure you have a USB thumb drive formated with regular FAT16. I tried a thumb drive formatted with FAT32 and no dice. The system didn't recognize it. There's also nothing to do with creating a folder and such. Just copy the firmware file to the root directory. The system will see the file and compare it to what is already installed. If the file is newer, it will tell you there is an upgrade available. You do this under the settings part of the root menu. You'll see at the end of the list of options...software update. Selecting software update will invoke the actions I mentioned above. You'll have to have your engine running before starting the update otherwise the system will not start the upgrade. Took only a few minutes. |

So far I have done a hard reset on the phone and tried to remove the phone as a recognized device on the car and reconnect. No dice. I will give the firmware update a try next. Thanks for all the info everyone.

Firmware update seemed to do the trick. Phone works normally with Bluetooth again, and doesn't require the USB cord anymore. Now I just need to buy a low profile cigarette charger from amazon and I will be set.
