Damaged rims - can they be repaired

I noticed yesterday that I have curbed my rims somehow, enough to scratch the rims and remove the lacquer - presumably these will now start to rust? What's the best way to stop this becoming more expensive?

The attached JPG may help you see what I am talking about.

Your advice appreciated.

Thx

doesnt look like curbing imo...somehow looks as if the paint is peeling. if the wheel isnt scratched in any ay, i'd take it back to the dealership ans ask them to fix it or give me a new wheel...

I thought (hoped) that at first but when I took a careful look the edge of the rims are scratched consistent with curbing. The rest of the wheel without the scratches doesn't show the peeling.

my dealer offers wheel repair for a flat fee of around $300 per wheel, all inclusive. That includes removing/reinstalling the wheel and (I assume) a service loaner. They say it would take about a week.

I've got a gash or two on one of my wheels but current plan is to wait until after I put my winters on, then have all the gashes repaired at once for the same flat fee.

whoa... $300 per wheel?? thats at least $150 too much! look around there are a lot of places that can re-finish a wheel for cheep, sometimes about $75 per wheel. It takes all of 5 minutes to take the wheel off and put it back on. Keep Lookin!

Do they have to remove the existing lacquer to do fix this or do they just apply new laquer in the peeled area?

to properly re-finish the wheels they will be completely sand blasted down to the original metal removing all the paint. after that they are primed, Painted, and then clear cloated. You can do you own cheep job with is in the DIY Section - just make sure the paint you are using is the Exact same color as the paint on there now - otherwise its going to look really bad.

I heard NTB (National Tire and Battery) can do the proper wheel repair (complete refinish -- not just touch up) for about $150 per wheel. They ship out to a wheel refinishing company called transwheel.com

Easy to fix. Sand the scratch a bit (600 grit), fill it with some Putty, dry it and sand (1000 grit) again and then paint it with Silver wheels touch up paint (base and clear coat), it'll look good again after the paint 's dried (not like the original, but it'll look good). Check DIY and follow the instruction. Cost you around $20 bucks total.

I curbed one of my SP wheels, (that i no longer have on) and the dealership has a wheel repair man. I approached him on my own. He works on wheel repair certain days. I rolled up and said...I have screwed up my wheel. He repaired the damage, sanded repainted, cleared and 100% perfect again and smooth. $60.00 total.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I will find a local wheel repairer and get myself booked it. When I finally get it done I'll post the results
