Oil pan gasket w/ trans removed?

I have my trans currently out. What I thought was a rear main leak turned out to be an oil pan gasket, with seeping from the rear main.

My question is has anyone done the oil pan gasket without dropping the subframe and having the trans out?

There are posts out there where people have snipped the gasket in one spot to get it in, but the worry is cleaning/removing the old gasket and being sure nothing gets in the oil pan to later cause problems. They don't seem to have problems with leaks, tho no doubt I would...

Have to drop the subframe to get the oil pan low enough to work around the oil pick-up.

Yeah, I was hoping that with the trans out, you would be able to work around the pickup.
Snipping the gasket seems a little too sketchy for me, I think I will go with dropping the subframe.

Thanks for the reply!

Me too-

If I'm going that far I would like to have the pan all the way out and be able to inspect the bottom end, be sure that everything was properly cleaned, have the option to install baffles if that's important etc. Snipping the gasket to get past the pickup shortcuts past all those things, and to me is just a bad plan.

Here is the l o n g thread on snipping the gasket. Note that it's not the N54 engine, but idea is same-same. For entertainment use only.....
