Has anyone swapped out ther trim?
I want to go from Walnut to Poplar. If so, did you do it yourself?
If done by a dealer how many hours did they charge? Additionally, is there a dealer that is reccomended for the best price for the parts? TIA |

umm, they are strikingly similar. Have you seen both in person? If you haven't, do yourself a favor and take a peek, you will be surprised.

I just had a look at both of them at my local dealer.Yes, they are close but the Poplar has a more visible grain IMO.
The poplar is also lighter so it brightens up the black leather cabin{i.e.,my car}. I know my obsessive compulsive disorder is in bloom, but isnt that the whole deal when you are dealing with a BMW anyway?! |

I had sold my X3 and my dealer just happened to have a car coming in that fit my spec{other than the poplar}, so I opted to take it rather than order. I thought I would be OK with the walnut. In the bigger scheme of things it is no big deal. Thanks for your info.

I believe if you do a search there was a recent post on trim swaps. Basically, the door trims come off quite easily (I believe OP used a flat head screwdriver). The dash trims are a little trickier (again with flathead screwdriver) as the vents are attached. For the center vents a torx it is required. The hardest piece seem to be the center console, I believe you have to disassmble the ashtray and may be even more difficult with the i-drive option...
Various trim kits can be found on ebay...try ebay seller: RoverActive Btw ... poplar on black is an awesome combination. Poplar looks much better than walnut (esp with black), it looks richer and more natural and almost sparkles in the light (the walnut looks more plood-ish). Pics just don't do this trim justice...looks different irl. Good Luck...
