I'm in the same predicament.
There's a few good 135i's on carsales on WA. I'd prefer to purchase from SA/TAS/NSW/VIC as I live between NSW/VIC but will register the car down in VIC given the cost difference Paul |

So really all I understood from the last 10 posts or so, is that iDrive = small knob, and Rai is willing to donate his knob... :P
bmroxm5: Speaking to a mate, he is also of the understanding that it is cheaper to send vehicles from west to east. Bringing things from east to west is more expensive...if you do find that quote, please let me know. There are a few nice 1ers on carsales. I'm just waiting to sort out this small hurdle with the wrx (got rear ended last week). I will most likely look at purchasing an 08' 135i, and you guys have convinced me to not worry about the iDrive... |

I'm going to go against the last few comments and say go for the iDrive on 09+ build cars.
If I could spec my car again and only choose 1 option it would be Pro iDrive. It's great for flicking through your music, I think the navigation works quite well, shows you all the service data and also good for scrolling through phone numbers etc. I depend on my iDrive to the point that sometimes even though I know where I am going I still put in my destination because it tells me what time I will get there and how many km's to go. Of course if I speed up (or slow down) the destination time adjusts accordingly but it's handy to know how late or early you will be before you get there. Scrolling through music is so much easier. When I get a loan car without iDrive I don't even bother to put my USB in the USB port because with over 35gb of music I can't see how easy it would be to scroll through music on the standard radio. I like having it all there on the screen and the idrive knob is very easy to use. Anyways, I recommend you check one out and have a play with one if you can. I know it looks a bit out of place but I think the interior looks a bit plain and cheap without it being there. Also, whatever you do, don't get the old iDrive. That technology is so relic I'm surprised the screen is not black and white! I know some people will say it will 'go out of date' but I can't see how it will. If it continues to function the way it does I will be happy. I know better systems will come out but for me this is a really user-friendly and intuitive system that does what I need. The Pro Nav is a pretty decent sized screen too, you really can't go wrong. This is just my perspective, others will agree/disagree. Good luck |

My position is that I certainly wouldn't be making a purchase decision based on iDrive or not and I certainly wouldn't pay a premium to get a car with iDrive.
