Battery Cable Connector Recall for BMW 1 Series (E8X), 3 Series (E9X), Z4 (E89)

I am lazy so this is a cut and past. Just want to make sure you all had this info.

------

SUMMARY:

BMW is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through July 2011; and 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through July 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011.

The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle.

CONSEQUENCE:
If there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector and secure it with an improved method, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in March 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Yes, any US recall can be done over here. I have had two recalls done to my car thru the German dealer.

I have not had this recall done yet. I was talking about in the past when I had the HPFP recall and the seatbelt B-pillar insulation recall done in the past. IF you go to your dealer... they can check for recalls via your VIN. Its its open, it will show up in their computer system. Sometimes it takes a week or two to pop up. That was what happened with the seatbelt B pillar recall... when I asked they said no recall open. Then two weeks later they told me it was now showing that my car was effected. I think BMW rolls VIN numbers of effected cars in small batches... so their dealers and parts network don't get over whelmed by customers.

Dack...that's good info.

How does a mil sales customer find out? If BMW NA does not have any record of the vehicle or owner in order to notify them.

You just have to have your local BMW dealer check your VIN. Also... as long as your local dealer has all your contact info(ie German address or email) they will contact you when the recall hits your VIN.

Glad you're back bro. We need to talk to see if you want to go 50/50 on the meth from that place Justin bought his. I have a VAT form handy too.

Thanks, glad to be back home. Oh yeah, I posted in another thread that I can get it a lot cheaper then what Justin was getting at. I can get 20 Liters for 52 euros. My mom has a friend that works at a chemical plant .

I was over at my BMW Zentrum today. They informed me that the dash doesn't need to come out. Only the glove box does. So far they have done a few cars. I might have mine done soon.
