PS: Niblet you need to come over here in Bayern where we have 'free" autobahns and they are straight and flat! Not like the congestion you have in Baden Wuertenburg or Hessen. I think your best bet is to drive down the A5 for a speed run at night. But make sure you know the area bc there are some baustellers (construction zones tehre now).

The way I have seen and experienced is that manual M cars at governed at 155mph, but if you have the DCT/SMG transmission the car will go over 155mph. I drove a stock M3 and I was close to 170mph. I dont think the tacho can be that much off.

170 mph is still within a 10% speedo error. Most speedo's are way off above 100 mph. You really need a high end GPS to see what your true V-Max is.

I have also read/heard that a DCT M3 when driven in manual mode past the 155 mph mark will allow the car to go faster than 155mph. But so far I have yet to see a VIDEO or any confirmation of this.

Even with M3fool's post bellow... he promised a video but later just ate his words. At least he was man enough to do so. Still... I would have liked to see a video of 173 mph.
