as of september bmw has released a new updated part number for high pressure fuel pumps.
a few cars at our dealer have had pumps replaced twice. the replaced pumps were no better than the original pumps. hopefully the new part number wil solve the pump issue. the hpfp is located underneath the intake manifold and is driven by the vacuum pump which is driven by the main timing chain. as of now the only vehicles in bmw's lineup that use direct injection and therefore a high pressure pump are the n54 biturbo engine and the n73 V12 found in the 760Li/i. hope that helps. |

my dealer, sounding like he knew what he was talking about, said it was not the pump per se that was the problem, rather, the seals weren't holding up. any truth to that?

the updated bulletin says the internal seals of the new pump have been improved. and there is no cross compatiblity of the fuel pumps in the n54 and the n73. the systems and the way they work are completely different.
