ATTN: Those interested in a space saver spare for the E90

I just talked to Andy at LeatherZ and he assured me that nobody has returned a spacesaver spare to him. I know there were reports that it didn't fit the 330 and it was returned by a memeber here. He was shocked to hear that we had heard it wouldn't fit a 330 as it fits the E46 M3. He is interested in settling this debate once and for all for us. If there is someone in the Cincinnati area that would be willing to go down to the shop he will try it on the car for us. Obviously it would be best if it were someone with a 330 because if it fits a 330 it will deff fit a 325.

If anyone can help please post here and I will get you in touch with Andy.

PLEASE!

Jesse

I think this would be greatly beneficial for many e90 owners...

C'mon Cincinnati!!

If it fits a 325 it will not necessarily fit the 330 as the 330 has larger brake disks. Someone with a 330 should be the guinea pig, since if it fits the 330 it will fit a 325.

That is correct. 16" wheels will NOT fit a 330i.

The leatherZ spacesaver is a 17" steel wheel.

True. I have an aftermarket 18" wheels on my 330 and the space between the brake and the inner part of wheels is razor thin.

It comes with a T125/80/17 tire, so it saves quite a bit of room from a stock tire in your trunk.

Wouldn't the difference in rims sizes make for a difference in sport and nonsport? 17 vs 18 inch, height difference or not?

Not sure what you're asking but the issue is brake clearance. If by sport package you are referencing the differences in ride height well that isn't an issue either. In order to compare height between 17 and 18 you probably would want to know tire dimensions. Check out TireRacks tire tech articles such as 'calc. tire dimensions', some other ones too I think.

edit: btw, any volunteers yet?

I have, and have had, this spacesaver spare for about 7 months; along with the BMW jack kit.

Admittedly, I havent tried it on the car; it fits the E46, there is no reason why it shouldnt fit the E90. Its a 17" spare, and can clear the m3 brakes, so it should clear the 330.

Ill try to test fit it next week to further alleviate any fears.

Jessie,

Have Andy send me one (if no one will go onsite?!?) and I'll take pics and document it, etc, and will pay for the tire it if it fits. Seriously. PM if you think this will work. Where are the Cinci members?

Is there another issue here?

I put 16" steel wheels with snow tires on my 325i, but I read here they are not approved for the 325xi -- something to do with heat dissipation if I remember correctly.

Is there a brake-heat-dissipation issue for putting steel wheels on the 330i?

I decided to do it myself, so I called Andy and ordered it. The jack kit he had to order so this should be shipping out on Wednesday. I will let you all know.

Right now I just have a stock 16" rim and RFT in the trunk and that takes up pretty much most of the trunk not to mention adding alot of weight to the car. I hope this drasticly changes my trunk setup for the better.

I will need a fellow Phonecian to help test the 330 though.
