The G4 is now officially the JB4 :)

Some more official info as we are getting closer to release. You guys are going to love it. I just loaded the latest firmware last night and went for a drive and I can tell you its going to be a popular upgrade I hope BMS is prepared for the demand as once the reviews and impressions come they are going to be VERY busy.

What's it called?

We were originally going to refer to the G4 as the JB3/G4 board. But with the PRO board also looming I think things are going to get too confusing. So for simplicity we're going to refer to the G4 as the JB4. It's such a huge departure from the JB3/G3 it really deserves it's own name anyway.

What's new?

The JB4 is an upgrade to the JB3 that replaces it's control box with a new much more technically capable box. The new box features 5x the processing power, 2x the memory, better signal conditioning, a more robust power supply, integrated CAN communications, and additional inputs and outputs for future use. CAN specifically is the largest improvement allowing access to hundreds of new parameters, commands, and potential tuning features. In place so far on the alpha are in dash gauges, shift light, built in code reading/deleting, steering wheel controls, on the fly map switching with confirmation, a completely new CAN based boost control system, cold oil protection, built in DPFIX, etc. Additional features currently under development include autotuning to optimize power and safety on an ongoing basis, drag launch mode, adaptive PID to optimize boost targeting, progressive meth mapping, and many more to come.

How much is it going to cost me to upgrade?

I have been getting a lot of questions about upgrading, etc. All original owners of the JB3 will be able to upgrade. There is no need to buy a new unit. Here are the details on the upgrade process (subject to change still)

For JB3 owners who bought direct or from an authorized reseller on 9/15/10 or later the JB4 upgrade will be free. For JB3 owners who bought direct or from an authorized reseller prior to 9/15/10 the upgrade will be $85 + core. For all others the price has yet to be determined. But it will be reasonable.

I ordered my jb3 pretty much when it came out thru burgertuning.com. I have no records of purchasing it anymore. Is this something BMS would have? Thanks i can't wait!

Sounds Awesome!

What about those of us who might have bought our JB3 from another member on 1addicts?

They haven't decided what to do but it will probably be a while because I read that there are about 4k people who want the thing and the will only be able to produce a small fraction of them in the first month or so. I imagine they will sell to the other people who paid full price for it....like me

pretty sure the power output will remain the same, it will just have alot more features then the previous version due to the CANbus integration.

What options do those of us with Dinan software have. I've heard of people combining JB3's with Dinan and I'd love to have some of those extra features...

Since the JB4 uses CAN data for the tuning now it can theoretically ignore the factory ECU tuning. So should be fine with Dinan pending further testing.

More. Now, with auto tuning, the car can push the boost higher because timing is monitored as well as other conditions.

Right! No more having to pick a map that is too conservative or to aggressive for your current conditions. It will monitor them and adjust accordingly so you're always at the safe maximum performance level.

Mike

Should be great with the switchable tunes.... when you want to leave it stock it would just revert back to the dinan (or whatever flash someone has) . But when you need more it's there =-)

I bought the JB+ sometime in October. How much to upgrade if I exchange?

Will the price remain about the same as the JB3 or should we expect it to be more?

he only mentions the JB3 as being upgradeable, they might be able to work out a deal for a JB4 for you but not sure if the core exchange would apply to the JB+

Looking more for a deal. Should've asked it that way as I don't have core to exchange like you mentioned.
