135 is not as fast as 335?

Ok ,
I have been Youtubing videos of 135 and 335 drag racing and dinos and test runs 0-60..
It seems to me that 335 is faster than the 135 even with just a JB3 in both.
Howcome all these videos are of a 335 getting awesome drag runs and 0-60 times and the 135 is sub par in comparison?
I know the 135 is lighter and has same engine. Whats the difference im missing? Maybe just the wrong videos?

I looked at the BMS website about dinos on stock 135 w/ JB3 and stock 335 w/ JB3. The 335 gets more HP than the 135!! howcome?
JB3 tuned better for the 335?

You can't compare dyno numbers like that. Different ambient temperatures, different dynos, basically everything's different. Same with the drag numbers. The cars need to have the same mods, and drag race one after the other to make those numbers valid.

I see some videos of 335 getting 3.8 or so 0-60..
In essence a 135 w/ same mods and driving conditions should be quicker no? I guess i have not seen a video of a 135 0-60 on you tube that is under 4 seconds.

TOTALLY driver dependent too. we could blow away Enzos with our cars, to 60, if the Ferrari driver sucks at launching.

Most magazine type tests that I've seen list the 135 a tenth of a second or so faster 0-60. The main differences would be weight, exhaust, and tires. A 135 should be a little faster.

Go to n54tech.com 135i forums.. lots of them there.

I call the cars a wash, with the skinnier tires on the 1 making a decent launch harder to do.

I think an auto 135 stock against a manual 335 would be faster to 60 since most people can not drive manual cars properly. But again as stated above it is all purely driver dependant. A fast car in the hands of someone who has no clue will have a slow car by default. A perfect example is my 91 5.0 mustang. when i first put a supercharger on it I drove it to a 13.4 @115mph at 6000ft elevation. My friend and Pro 5.0 racer drove it that same day and ripped off a 12.2 @ 118 on street tire. I got better though the best i ever got out of it was a 10.66@ 132 on slicks. It was still a manual as well.

depends on the version of the BMW software. Some of the older 335 came with the pre-lag software while most 135 were delivered with the laggy software. The boost coming on earlier would make a difference.

I don't know what to say about those youtube videos...

But when I raced my buddies auto 335 with 285's in the back and exact same mods as I have.

I completely ate him alive. Not only was I faster from a roll at 40 and 60, I out launched him too (though that was probably driver error here). He had a passenger though.

Nice, thats the kinda story im looking for.
I still have to see those vids on N54 . But besides that has anyone seen a video of a 1er under 4 sec 0-60 yet?
Also. Still trying to get an answer to why the 335 gets more hp from a jb3 tune vs a 135 w/ jb3. Jb3 site even shows the dynos for it. Odd since its same engine.

The only dyno charts I can find show the 335i stock with JB+ and then there is a chart for the 335 with downpipe intake and 93oct so I am not sure what you mean or what you are looking at on that site. I dont think the 335's make more power but there is always going to be differences between cars and dyno's. too many variables.

Having an extra passenger makes all the difference when you compare cars that are so close! In my experience it's about a car length difference on a roll and the gap only gets bigger with an extra person.

This is my stock 135i (sorry for bad quality - crappy phone camera):

Just under 5 sec to 60 mph, and 5 sec to 62 mph (100 km/h)...

You're looking in the wrong places!

Have a look at www.dragtimes.com

You will see 135 leads 335 with respect to 1/4 mile times. Like for like 335 will lag by 0.2 seconds compared to 135 in 0-60 times.

nice! looks actually faster than 5 sec 0-60 actually.
So how these 335 guys getting under 4 sec?
there launches looked to be as fast as your launch ..

what rpm you start off with before letting off clutch ? sounded like 3 or 4ish?

I guess with some aggressive tune (and with wide&sticky rubber at the back) getting to 60 mph in around 4 sec might be possible. Mind you that my 135i is completely stock...

I launched at only around 2.5k rpm and with DTC mode engaged. With higher revs I got (too much) wheel spin and thus slower times... But I have to say that the road pavement was in a good shape and very sticky!

I think you are mistaking 0-60mph times with 60 ft. times.

If the 3er is all wheel drive, you'd expect better 0-60 despite the weight, right?
