and today I took off the blue tape holding the center up. drove to work 5 mins away and it appears the middle is starting to come off and sag already

guess I'm gonna have to take it off and redo the tape =(

I dont think the tape provided is thick enough, its not making contact with the bumper so its not holding very well.

i even tried to double it up, but it prob needs a triple or even 4 layers to get it thick enough

blah

If the sections you're referring to are the front left and right side edges...then yes, triple is best.

3M Adhesion Promoter where the tape is to be applied would help out greatly with your issues here. They can be procured at any auto paint supply store (read: not Pep-Boys, Autozone, etc.). I paid $1.50 per packet at my local store. Here is what they look like:

As achtung mentioned, the face of the fangs do require to sometimes triple layer the tape (depending on 3m thickness) to get a good contact patch with the bumper. There have been many flawless installs already, hopefully the video will make it a little easier for you guys.

i was using the roll of tape that you guys included with the lip, which was pretty thin. I doubled it up but it wasnt enough. Gonna hopefully pick up a roll of heavy duty 3m this week. Had it been thicker it would have held the lip on well.

The 3M HD tape is no thicker than the regular stuff. I think the trick is, and this someone else's idea, not to use any tape on the center section but double maybe triple up on the side pieces and use larger mounting bolts for the ends. If I ever redo mine that's what I will do.

I've been told the tape was thicker =(

doubling up the tape wasnt enough, and i have #10 3/4" screws for the sides (which were needed as the stock screws wouldnt even bite with the lip in place, just not long enough)

Make sure you are cleaning both the lip and the bumper with isopropyl alcohol to get rid of any wax/grime/oils/etc as that will prevent the tape from grabbing!

Do you have an aftermarket intercooler? We've received nothing but praises for the 50+ V2 lips we've sold, so with a little patience all should go on well

We're looking for a stock 135i locally to finish the install video - our 1 series' has been frankesteined to the point nothing is in the stock place anymore lol...

Mine has been on quite a few weeks now and nothing has moved or pulled away. It still looks as good as the day I ftted it.

I wish I could say the same. The center of my lip has pulled away from the bumper, and a little bit on the very end where the screw goes on the driver's side. I might have to redo this one all over again.

so today im driving and hear funny noise, got home looked around my car and looked at my lip. the whole center section has ripped off. awesome. the part u put tape on was still stuck to my car but the lip seperated from it and was hanging down with a 1/4" gap in the center again.

i really wish i had just gotten the rear difuser at this point at least those seem to fit well.

I have figured out why the center pulls away. Look under your lip, does it look all wavy in the center?

I bet you your lip was just like mine. When I put the lip up to the car for the first time, I noticed that the ends had to be pushed in to meet the bumper. If you put the lip up to the car without pushing the ends, the ends of the lip are no where near where they need to be. I thought that it was lucky that the lip was so flexible to allow that, otherwise it wouldn't line up at all. I was wrong.

The lip is flexible, but that pushing motion to get the ends to line up causes the center to bow out and down. The bending of the lip causes the waviness in the underside of the lip, and won't allow the center to reach the bumper.

The result is that gap that both you and I have. The lip wasn't made with enough curve in the mold to allow it to fit to the bumper properly. Basically, its too straight.

^ my lip actually split in half. the center section came off of the rest of the lip. so part of the lip (with the tape was still stuck to the car, and the rest of the lip was hanging down 1/4"
i cant believe after waiting so long for this. it broke after being on the car for a few weeks.

My lip is also holding up just fine. I did not tape the center section.

YEP. So the constant pressure of the lip wanting to pull away from the bumper, it was the lip vs the 3m sticky tape and the tape won. I'm wondering if maybe i had gotten a defective lip.
