128i Aftermarket HIDs DDM Tuning

Hey Everyone,

I just purchased a pair of H7 (low beams) and H11 (Fog Lights) from ddm tuning. I have a 128i, and after installing the lights they appeared to work, and look VERY good.

HOWEVER, they will flicker + then go out. I called the company and both sales and technical support could not give me a solid answer, and said they have little experience with the BMW 1 series. He told me that I could go to my local BMW dealership and have the computer settings changed from halogen to HID, and that should allow the car to accept the lights, and the flickering should go away. I don't know if I believe this. Are there any other lights that you all recommend? Currently this guy is very frustrated.. Thoughts? Maybe even a resolution to my problem?

as far as i know, and i haven't done this before, you need to wire capacitors or error canceling capacitors onto the lights wiring.

something like this:

search the forum for "flickering" as well.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=414551

btw, did you have stock xenons or did you install these in a halogen housing? can we get some pics please?

I installed the bulbs into stock halogen housing. My local BMW dearlership said go back to halogens bc it could burn out the sockets. Anyone have any further insight.

Are you running the cancellers & wiring harness from DDM Tuning as well? If not, I'd recommend trying that route first.

Just a quick note, those pictures have CAPACITORS in them, not resistors. That is a very, very big difference. I would imagine resistors would probably not help you, as capacitors are the thing that would probably reduce flickering like that.

And note that those capacitors are polar and must be installed facing a certain direction (see the arrows on the side?) in order to work the way you want.

GL!

I think I am going to just cut my losses and return the lights I orderd from DDM Tuning. I am not a very patient guy, and I don't want to have to buy additional parts to get a product that should work in the first place to work. I might try to send a signal to the ECU and see if that works, but I am fed up with these lights.

I just want to know a good option for me. I obviously don't have HIDs just stock halogen housings.. For the 128i what is the easiest and most cost effective way to change my lights to HIDs

I don't know if they will be cost effective, but a set of Depo Headlights will do it. I did it and I am very pleased with it. I did have problems with flickering and a pair of capacitors did the job.

I think you really need is this from DDM... I'm surprise they didnt recommend this to you

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Er...minator-3-PAIR

I did this to the wifes 2009 328i and it works prefect... just sure the positive and negative are right or it will pop and you have to buy another set...

So your positive that these error code eliminators will work? I have no problem buying them, but I dont want to put the money into those.. and then have to wait forever to recieve them. I live in Omaha, NE and would hate to have to send them back along with lights if it didnt work.

Im a very impatient person.. I sound like a complete whiner.

@Murdered_One - can we get some pics please? (before they flicker off preferably :P).

Reason why is i also have halogen housings and wanted to see how they look

Any old pic is fine (cellphone camera etc) just keen to see how they look!

Also, how easy were they to install? I'm thinking of getting myself a pair..i'm thinking 35W, 6000K. What you think? Which pair did you buy? Got a link?

How's the beam cutoff? Doesn't glare too much and blind oncoming drivers?

I know on the 2009 328 there was a lot of confusing on if they work or not, only way to know is to try it. this is what i heard from the e90 forum that the kit flicker because the HID doesn't use a lot of voltage, so once you try it on, they work but once the computer doesn't see the voltage then it shuts it off. The eliminator trick the computer believing that the voltage is the same as the halogens.

Do not get warning code deleters from DDM tuning, I repeat DO NOT DO THIS. I went through three pairs of them, in every pair at least one of them exploded on me, literally exploded. Either get one Jlevi sell or use the capicitors shown in the pic.

did you check on what polarity it was? i know you have to make sure the polarity is right... best way to check is use a volt meter to see if the polarity is right

this is from there website...

Warning: Some vehicles may have reverse polarity. Reverse polarity can cause a BOW to explode. We recommend wearing safety glasses and closing your hood before testing the BOW on your vehicle.

Did you have issues installing the HID fog lights? Where did you mount the ballast?

I took off the front tires, and took out about 4 screws under the right and left right front bumper.. and I think two screws on the inside of the fender liner.. and then just peeled back the liner to install. Very easy.. some people would suggest to take the front bumper off.. but that is WAYY too much work.. this way is very easy, and if you have any questions with it just PM me.
