0w40 castrol full synthetic $4.50

There is a big sale at Advance Auto, buy one get one free for
Castrol full synthetic oil $8.99 qt. So it comes out to about $4.50 if anyone interested. Sales end in a month. By far the cheapest I've seen for 0w40 LL-1
oil for my GTR and the 1M. Most store will sold out if you want more than 12. I stock few dozens because I daily drive both, but mostly the 1M and I don't believe in once a year oil changes. So happy shopping for those diy

I use Motul, because in Russia there are many fakes Castrol, but you're right Castrol cooler. At the Nurburgring I tried 0W30 Castrol, Motul 300V 15W50, and now 5W30 Motul 300V, coldest was Castrol, is very strange but 15W50 was the hottest oil on track.

Will there be any problem with bringing your own oil to a dealership?
Warranty etc etc

Fake oils
I thought the same thing too... until I started using German Castrol oil instead of Mobil-1. Both were the same grade oil: 0w40 and LL-1 approved.

The oil brand really does matter(!) - other wise I don't think BMW would stamp it right on our oil caps.

I use German Castrol in my car. I have noticed that the oil temp needle rns about two needle widths colder with G.C vs M1. Plus my engine runs much quieter and starts up with less metallic noise when cold.

I use Mobil 1 0W40 since the first service and if the car was filled from factory with 5W30 then yes Mobil 1 also works better in comparison, like you said it runs cooler but warms up faster. Until I find and try Castrol (not available here), I am satisfied with the performance of OW40 Mobil 1.

Fake oils
Yes, a lot of fakes especially castrol, and the fact that our dealer sells a complete crap (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...620282&page=13 post 270) , and when your warranty is out you can go rebuild the engine.
I buy my oil and bring to a dealer.

I still have 14 qts of Mobil 1 0w40 left for the GTR, already changed the 1M at about 6k and heading into the next annual routine service with 12K miles which the dealer cover. Wanna try the Castrol 0w40 on the GTR and see if any difference/improvements. Its about $3 cheaper than the Mobile 1 with the discount.

Cheers
