As for Tune ABC vs Tune 123 Im all for having choice, my motive with Evolve was to go for variety ( at the time it was only OE, AA, EuroCharged. Gintany/LET was discredited for their dynos). Evolves brand offered confidence in my risk. Do I think I got a sub par tune? NO. I asked for a tune suited to the Octane 91 AKI + additive gas sold where I live. And I notice the difference when I fuel up with sub par gas even though its advertised as "94 AKI". Maybe I should have asked for 93 AKI or unchanged file form UK ( what STIG had pre headers) and see what local gas does. My tune feels very refined, shows gains in the 3k Dip ( the range that I believe is the delta between tunes), matches the gain pattern of most Disa tune + intake dynos and to add I did have a noticeable improvement as soon as I removed the charcoal filter with Eurobox ( 2 months after my dyno, I plugged my ears and drove the same road, result was more DTC flashing, wheel slip). Am I a fanboy - no, just a guy who took the red pill for better or worse. I actually challenge the next enthusiast to try BW chiptune or P-Torque, both have remote tools, advertise and offer group buy deals on Baby BMW forums.

just to make clear. There are two ways to turn off the CAT efficiency codes. 1) Completely switch off the sensors or set the conditions to activate the Catalyst efficiency to a level where the DME will never record (set minimum road speed to something that cannot be reached for example) 2) Keep the car in ready mode and no CEL. This is far more tricky to do on these generation of DME's and I have so far tried every trick I know to no avail. Will send you a map which will turn off the sensors (there is no toning them down, system doesn't work that way unfortunately) and then carry on working on a way to keep everything ready. |

I know it is a bit of a hike, but if you want to swing into my area we could do a once over of the header install and such on my lift to see if there are any hardware issues. I'm running the same setup with zero codes currently.

Thanks for the offer, I am currently too busy with school to get out that way. I have family that lives in New Jersey, if I'm ever out near you we should meet up though, be cool to hear your car in person.

If you can, take some pictures of the pre and post cat O2 sensors and PM them to me.

I had a LOT of headaches caused by what turned out to be mixed up secondary o2 sensors. Mixing those two up ended up making bank 2 run extremely lean and it burned out the primary bank 2 o2 sensor which then threw more check engine lights. I'd ensure that they aren't mixed up. I really thought mine werent(when i installed they werent) but a shop somewhere along the line mixed them up and that's what gave me two codes and a CEL. Although my codes were o2 codes.

For what purpose? O2's went into the same holes that they sat on the original pipes, had to unclip part of the wiring for the one. Only thing I did different on my install than your DIY was I messed with the motor mount to make things a little more accessible.

I don't like how many of the issues are always assumed as user error, companies make mistakes as well. Which Salman has stuck with me to this day and is continuing to find a solution. The light on the dash gets annoying lol

Which depending on your calculation of drivetrain loss, is around 300hp, which I have been saying since day 1 when it comes to these engines.

A friend of mine had that exact issue, swore he hadn't swapped them... but I finally talked him into trying swapping after he got tired of banging his head into the wall on other solutions, and all was resolved. Couldn't hurt to verify.

I'm the guy that is really particular and makes sure that each nut and bolt goes back in exactly the same hole it came out of. I lay everything on the ground in a certain order to make sure. BTW when I dyno my car I'm going to use a mustang dyno so everyone is confused by the numbers. Last edited by MarkkyyMan; 03-25-2014 at 01:17 PM.. |

Yup. For a long time people had a hard time accepting this engine could get there with relatively simple bolt ons. People are turning around though.

No problem, I am a happy customer. The tune refined the car, and made it very enjoyable on a daily basis.
