People keep saying, well evo guys do it, sti guys do it, xxx guys do it. Find me a daily driven DI car that does it....you won't.

Hell find me upgrade DI injectors, I know the vdub 2.0 has something along the the lines of an "upgraded" injector, but its still a failure.
Not sure how many E85 powered cars you've worked with, but I know people who have been running straight E85 for around ~5 years or so without ever touching fuel lines, and am yet to see anyone "corrode" lines/tank ect. For the better part of 15-20 years manufacturers have been forced to comply with building fuel systems that will stand up to at least E10 (most gasoline is made up of 10% ethanol these days), and I am yet to see a gasoline-only motor tuned on E85 that has "corroded" a fuel system on a fairly modern car. Granted, I'm sure you can find exceptions that were made 20+ years ago prior to the addition of ethanol to our gasoline, but on every modern car I've seen (quite a few to say the least), this has yet to be an issue.

That is more or less just rumor and speculation with no real proof. Granted, I'm sure over a very long period of time (10 years maybe?!?), you might see additional wear due to corrosion from E85 on a modern car, but no, running E85 does not equate to short term corrosion, or at least not on any modern platform I've ever dealt with.

With that said, on a stock fuel system, yeah, you're going to run out of headroom, and are likely to run the car lean prior to making more power over gasoline, as I'm sure the stock pump/injector wouldn't be able to keep up.

However, on port injection motors, when they rate injectors based on CC's, those are only approximate flow ratings based on a set fuel pressure. Run out of injector on a port injection motor? No problem, add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and increase fuel pressure. Viola, instant additional fuel overhead/lower IDC's with the same AFR's. Honestly I see no reason why the same principles wouldn't apply across the board, except in the case of a DI motor, since there's no real FPR per se, the final pressure is determined by the cam-driven HPFP. As such, IMO, increasing fuel overhead should be as simple as increasing fuel pressure/running a larger/higher capacity HPFP. Granted, I'm not sure how far the OEM unit can be modified to increase pressure (like APR & CP-E have done for the VW & Mazdaspeed crowds), or if an entirely new unit would be mandatory (not a bad idea considering all the issues with the stock unit ), but either way, rather than focusing on injectors, an upgraded fuel pump is the way to go IMO.

Granted, I agree with your assessment, E85 powered DI cars don't exist as of yet, but give it a few years and let more manufacturers jump on the DI bandwagon, it'll eventually force the aftermarket to focus on developing parts for these types of platforms.... like mentioned above, there's a good chance I'll probably be onto another new car before that happens haha, but IMO, it'll happen one day. Just my $.02

I realize we are no where near running ethanol on the N54/55 platform at the moment, but unlike Clap, I believe the day will come. My main point above is that other platforms have no difficulty implementing failsafe-backed meth systems with Cobb or any other type of reflash. If your meth system has a failsafe that provides a positive or ground trigger, then tying this back into the wastegate(s) should not be too much of an issue. I will admit that the Procede handles this integration in a more elegant manner.

I agree - this is hard to understand. The 135i gains are only about half those of the 335i and the dyno sheet they show on the see modification requirements link is for the 335i. Rob can you address this. I like the idea of the flash loader, but it will be hard to accept paying $900 for half the performance increase that the 335 is getting and about half of what the JB and Proceed offer.

I'll let Rob address the differences in power.

We'd like to get a bone stock 08-10 135i in here at the Austin facility, perhaps tomorrow at our First Thursday event. The 335i and the 535i were dynoed here at our Austin facility and the 135i was dynoed at our Surgeline facility in Portland, OR. We'd really like to see how the 135i performs on the same dyno the 335i and 535i were tested on, so if you are in the Austin area and want to see how much power your 135i would make using the AccessPORT, give us a call at 866-922-3059 and we'll schedule an install and dyno pull.

We're at:
COBB Tuning
2311 W Rundberg Lane, Suite 500
Austin TX 78758

Thanks,

Gary

Two different dynos has to be part of the explanation - looking forward to seeing the results of the 135 dynoed on the same dyno as the other cars and any further explanation from Rob. Where I live we have 92 octane as the premium fuel - would I just run the 91 octane map and give away a little power. Not sure if the 1 additional octane would bring much to the table, but the 93 curves do look better than the 91 curves.

Also - now that the N54 tune is out - any update on the progress of the tune for the N55.

Let me know if you'd like to dyno a bone stock 2008 335i. I'll be there tomorrow regardless.

I am kinda disturbed by this as I was hoping for lower PSI for those dyno numbers with Cobb stage 1 which are running parallel with Dinan S2 that uses less PSI

Go back couple of pages, I posted a comparison of Cobb Stage 1 with Dinan S2 dynos
