I am planning to get oil and filter changes @ 1000km then every 5000km.
Even if it is done at a local mechanic or BMW, does not matter to me (whoever is cheaper). Will get BMW to do the major services to ensure resale. No way would i wait till 25,000km to get the oil changed, this would kill resale (private buyer) and turbo cars need reg oil changes to ensure long term reliability (common knowledge). |

I'm with Gumball. I plan on changing my oil at every 5,000kms myself - would you believe I've not yet made it to its first change yet! - six months of ownership and a mere 4,400kms on my beast.

I plan on going to BMW and sourcing the filter and oil they'd use as part of their regular interval servicing. Whilst not cost efficient, I've always changed oil every 5,000kms in my cars and plan on continuing to do so with my 135i.

I'm sticking to the 25,000km or one year option because that's the recommended schedule. With respect to trade-in value, I'm going to get screwed either way when I trade it on the next car.

my 135 had 2300 miles and the computer is telling me that I don't have to do anything until 30K miles or some time in 2010. It's this something that will change after I drive it a little more. Seems to me that 30K or 2010 is a little to long before any service?

I think it's got something to do with the car "thinking" when it needs a service. Maybe the engine management system is programmed to take a number of factors into account and hence determine when a service is required. If you hammer the bejesus out of your car I would expect the service interval to decrease.

I changed to Motul X-Clean X3. $109 for 5L. I needed 6.5L with the filter change as well.
I've found the engine runs slightly cooler after the change.

I just finished changing the oil on my car at 7500km and I was very shocked to see the condition of the oil.
The oil was very dark/black, and rubbing between fingers felt a little bit gritty. I suggest to everyone who hasnt change thier oil yet and want to keep their car longer, not to wait for the schedule servicing at 15000km, its too long imho. BMW may consider longer service intervals between oil changes to be "OK", but I beg to differ. From what I can see the condition of the oil would block the oil lines to the turbos in the long term as it was abit gritty. |

Are they going to be doing that for the cars in the corporate programs though?

Hey guys, the service interval thing isn't fool proof. Mine got to 3000km to service mark very quickly, within the first 5000km of use. Now at about 8000km and more canning at track days and a race, it still say 3000km to service. Go figure. I am guessing there must be a minimum service km interval. So if you drive your car hard (track car for example), don't rely on the interval...

WAY there is a service bulletin out for erratic service interval count downs on 1ers. It is one of the qualifying ways to get a ECU programming update covered under warranty.
