2nd oil cooler, how big do i want to go?

Last season, I had oil and coolant overheating issues at the track which leads me to thinking about adding a second oil cooler and then at some point, the csf rad.

Id like to put the second cooler at the opposite corner of the oem one, running lines out of the oil cooler housing.

It seems like a 19 row cooler is a popular option, but what about going larger?

Has anyone determined the largest size you would want to go while staying within the confines of the bumper?

any other suggestions?

this is almost entirely a track day car so there wont be any issues with cool oil daily driver stuff

I ran a Setrab Series 6, 25 row oil cooler in the Evolution Racewerks housing. I had to cut the side mounting points off the core and build brackets to mount it at the top and bottom. I think this is the tallest, widest, and deepest oil cooler you can fit inside the bumper. It is extremely tight. Due to it's width and depth, the outer edge was about 1mm from the inside of the bumper cover. If you plan on hanging the cooler from the PPK aux radiator bracket, I wouldn't go any taller either or the 90* AN fittings required to run the oil lines will not fit within the lower engine tray.

Do you plan to run it off the top of the stock themrostat housing? If so, you will ONLY want to use the same size oil cooler as what you have on the other side of the car.

that was the plan. Currently the car has the stock oil cooler on the other side.

Why do the two need to be the same size?

Would a single 25 row cooler be sufficient then?

The top ports of the stock thermostat would put the second oil cooler in Parallell to the stock oil cooler. In a Parallell setup both coolers need to have the exact same flow or oil will flow to one cooler more than the other. It won't be worth the effort to run a 25row off the top ports of the stock thermostat since the oil will just continue to flow through the stock oil cooler. The 25row won't be very effective.

Either upgrade both coolers, run two stock size 10 row coolers, replace the stock 10 row with a 25row, or run the 25 row in series with the stock oil cooler.

A Setrab 625, as stated above, fits with some *very* careful measuring and a bit of massaging. Just picked up a second 625 to run on the driver's side, will see how that goes.

You ever finish the mounting bracket design for the passenger side cooler?

Any additional information/pictures of the setup? Mounting brackets, hoses, etc?

Would rather rip out the small stock cooler and stick a bigger one in that location.

Made the hoses and brackets. Using an Improved Racing external thermostat. I can see if I have any pics. I just made some simple brackets with plate steel. they are clamped behind the bumper.
