Has anyone painted their muffler?
I installed my new carbon fibre rear diffuser today. I love how it looks but there is one thing that irks me about it. With the standard plastic diffuser, the muffler couldn't be seen at all. With the carbon fibre diffuser, the bottom of the muffler is very visible and on a black car it stands out like tits on a bull.
I had the thought of painting the muffler a flat black to try and blend it in a bit but I'm not sure if that would actually make it stand out more. Obviously, I would use a flat coloured paint and not anything glossy. Has anyone done it before? |

You can buy hi-temp matte black exhaust paint in a rattle can, if that's what you're looking for, i have some in the garage somewhere

Yeah I know you can get the correct paint for the application. I'm interested to see if other people have done it. I want to hide the muffler but I'm not sure if painting it could actually draw more attention to it and have the opposite effect to what is desired.

I painted the bottom half of mine with high temp exhaust spray paint. Cleaned it
good and just a couple of coats. Has held up just fine for a year now. I have the performance exhaust with the stock black tips, I rolled the inner lips of the tips to enlarge the opening. With everything else black it looks much better now.

I have painted my muffler matte black, but it is aftermarket and doesn't sit as low as the OEM muffler, so you can hardly see anything other than the tips!
Just paint yours, if you don't like it, use some brake cleaner/paint stripper and wipe it off! |

A little blurry but you get the idea. Simple to do and I don't see any downside to it.

No need to take it off since the bottom half is all that needs to be painted.

I've also thought about doing this but then thought about what happens when dirt or mud builds up on there, then you will be able to see it clearly against the dark / black paint so I never did it lol!
There's different types of high temp paint, I wouldn't get the gloss one, but I wouldn't want to put in the very coarse/rough/matte one either as that would "stain" with dirt and mud much more easily if you know what I mean.... |

I've done this on a bunch of different cars. Go get some of this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleu...8830/202315061
Take the muffler off, give it a quick degreasing, and shoot it with a coat or two of this stuff. Works great and lasts forever for a whopping four bucks. |
