Smoke after new AR downpipes

I just got my new ar design cattless dp's installed and im seeing white smoke from my exhaust. Is this normal for now?

P.S. I also have a cattless exhaust (RPI Quad Exhaust).

I'm in guam and its always hot here (about 88). it was not on the cold start. It was even after driving for 30 miles. I'm guessing its old caked up junk from the stock dp's. And my car only has 9,7XX miles on it.

White smoke is usually oil burning..

When I installed headers/catless mids into my magnaflow exhuast on my 06 GTO it produced white smoke for a little while. But after driving it to a shop to get a street tune it was gone. Maybe it's burning something out of the pipes or it's running lean?

Bingo. It should be rather humid on Guam. You are likely just burning off condensation that would have evaporated in the cats

I think I have found the issue. I've been doing a lot of reaserch and it looks like it's one of a few things...

1) Turbo seals
2) PCV valve
3) Turbos are toast!!

My only problem with all these posibilities is that i had no signs of these before the AR DP's were installed 3 days ago.
I have driven the car about 200 miles and the white smoke seems to be getting worse so i checked the oil level. It was about a quart low and it was full 2 days ago. I've done an oil change about 400 miles ago (at most). I also have a OCC. I was reading a thread on the 3 series page and one guy was saying it could be a backpressure issue. Maybe doing cattless is letting the PCV valve allow oil to flow in the wrong direction. IDK .

I'm just hoping its not the turbos!! Does anyone know where the PCV valve is located? I'm gonna try that first cause its the easiest fix. It that doesnt work does anyone have any other ideas??

first off, the only backpressure issue you have with turbos is any...is too much. turbos love spooling. a conical design from the dp's on back (growing larger in diameter as it nears the back of the car) is typically ideal.

get under the car and start looking for oil residue. take a look in your coolant and also in your oil. however unlikely, a blown head gasket will typically blow white smoke out the back because your coolant is getting into the combustion chamber. However unlikely, this is easy to eliminate so you might as well do so.

I've never had pcv issues going catless on other cars. If you have a vacuum issue that might explain something, but vac issues usually have other symptoms that are much more obvious.

I'd love to hear what the actual problem ends up being. I can't imagine why you'd suddenly blow the seals in your turbos just by going catless. If anything you're making the turbos a bit happier.

Thanks for all of your input guys. Ya, i really want to get this issue resolved!! I'm gonna take the car to the guy who did the DP install and have him take off all of the plastic covers off and take a look at the oil supply and returns for the turbos. I'm thinking he could have bent or crimped the return piping and thats why the seals are leaking (because the return tube isnt keeping up with the volume that the supply is pushing through. Speaking of that, does anyone know it the turbos have a fail safe if too much oil pressure builds up in them. That could be why i am burning excess oil...IDK.

Again, thanks for everyones input

BTW, i checked the PCV and everything is working fine. My OCC is bone dry also.

check your coolant for oil, and oil for coolant.

you don't have any oil under your car, on the ground, after letting it sit a while?

Just curious...when did you install your BMS OCC? There should be oil in it after one month or so based on what I have experienced and another forum member. BTW....during my install i notice quite a bit of oil in the PCV hose I removed.

So I talked to a BMW master mechanic in the states and I told him everything I have done to my car (mods wise). I wanst afraid to tell him because the states is in a different region than i am.

He says the only way i could be burning oil is for it to be coming from the turbos. he says my seals are done!! i asked how can that be with only having 10k miles on the car?? he said it was prob the methanol injection that crystallized the seals and caused them to leak.

Is anyone else running meth, and for how long with no problems?

I have only ran about 1 1/2 gallons through mine as well. I havent had it installed to that long.

Can someone please give me your input on this meth f'ing up my car situation?!

If they are new pipes they are probably just burning off left over crud from the manufacturing process. I had this happen with my DP's as well as a smell, it went away within a week.

so my car just went through a huge over haul. 2 new turbos and lines, all new injectors, new DME, all new wiring, new valve cover, 6 new spark plugs. all adding up to about 12,000 including labor. thankfully it was all covered by bmw under goodwill. so the bottom line issue was the oil lines that feed the turbos were corroded and nasty, I guess due to the weather in guam. so bmw did all of the other stuff before the turbo replacement (which was good for me to get all of that other stuff for free!!) Just wanted to give all you guys out there an updade.
