Check the NJ chapter BMWCCA website. I think they run an autocross more frequently than the NY Chapter.

Motorsports NE does autox at the Meadowlands, if you're close to the NJ border. Very well run, too - I've done several there. I think that the PCA does autox events there too that are open to any car, though you'd have to have a strong ego to take the abuse from the competition.
Motorsports NE has no schedule on their site yet, but they should have their first event in early April or so. |

Really it is all down to personal preference. I like closed face because no cameras can take pictures of my weird faces as I drive...lol
Highly suggest you get fitted before you order. With that being said, apexperformance is a great place to buy. Sponsor on bimmerforums, for sure, if you research you can get a 10% off code. Make sure you get a 2010 rating, if you get a 2005 it will be only good for a couple years. If you're ever going to do track, it is worth the investment to go SA rating |

Though, one medium size helmet from Brand X doesn't fit as well/comfortable as Brand Y. I'd just goggle and see if any shops are around. |

Stable Energies in Garfield, NJ is worth the drive. You can try on helmets there, their pricing is competitive, and they're very knowledgable.
I have a Bell that's kind of a hybrid - helmet that has the lower piece fully around the jaw and mouth, but has a top shield only and has a very large opening - not nearly as claustrophobic. If you're not going to do serious racing, an open face is fine; but if you think you may be moving up in seriousness, might as well get a full face - not worth buying two different helmets for each use. |
