apex arc-8 with h&r sport or eibach

I just bought some 18x8.5et45 9.5et62 arc-8's that I will be running 235 40 18 front 265 35 18 rears and I am wondering if I can run h&r sports or eibachs without modification. If not, what modification will I need to do. Thanks.

I have read on here that a person running 235/40/18's on ARC-8's with the BMW performance suspension rubbed enough to swap to smaller 225/40/18's in the front.

Both springs you are referring to, h&r and eibach are lower than the BMW PS so I would assume you have a near 100% chance of rubbing.

Stock suspension does not rub.

To go lower you are going to need negative camber. The setup I intend to run 245/35/18's requires -2.2 to -2.5 from what I have been told.

I assume you will need more neg camber than what you can get stock lowered (approx -0.7- 1.2) and what 245's require.

I think you will need to be in the -1.5 to -1.8 range. There are multiple options to get this (various camber plates or M3 lower arms) I recommend 235/35/18's not 235/40/18s.

Hopefully someone with the exact setup you are taking about will chime in.

Both the H&R Sport and Eibach springs are moderate drops for the 1-series so it should be okay with the 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports unless your alignment is not within OEM specifications. We have heard that some customer have had rubbing when using coilovers and lowering their ride height a significant amount, but that isn't the case with most lowering springs.

Just an update, as of right now the 235 40 18 fit with allignment pin removed and 3mm spacers to be more comfortable with strut clearance and h&r sport with no rub yet. And I love it. I may have some spare 225 40 18 for sale soon if it stays decently rub free. I will say it is close, and I am glad I picked up the 225 as spares. Thank you guys for the help, much appreciated.

Are Michelin Pilot Super Sports available in those sizes? I couldn't find them in those sizes in the UK so went for Pirelli PZeros instead. I'm rubbing in the rear with Arc-8's and 265/35/18, so am seeking a solution.

Is your suspension stock and are you using any spacers? I'm using Achilles sport atr's.

I'm not currently using any spacers and my suspension is aftermarket. However, the rear suspension isn't really any lower than stock, which is why I'm surprised that it's rubbing. However, I get the feeling that it'd rub less/not rub if it was lower.

I started a thread here with pics:

I have 5 mm spacers in the rear with extended bolts with no rubbing, and I don't have to worry about the fender hitting as there is still enough clearance. I would try a 5 mm. As for wheel locks I don't have any yet.

We have not heard of any issues with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports rubbing with our wheels on the 1-series, and they are indeed available in 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 sizes. That's the first time we've heard that the Pirelli PZeros have issues, have you checked alignment settings to make sure that they are within OEM specifications? We've heard of some 1-series having rubbing issues and alleviating it after realigning their cars, so that might be a possible solution.

Hi there, do you have any pics of your car with this setup please? What brand of tyre are you using? Also, do the tyres stick out of the arches very much? I'm slightly rubbing on the front struts and rear arch liner with the same size tyres as you on the front and 265/35/18 on the rear. I'm running Pirelli PZero with a moderate drop on the front and barely any drop on the rear (probably equal to stock).

Sorry if I've already PM'ed you these questions, I'm losing track of who I've contacted for help now!

Thanks!
