Walnut blasting near Chicago (results!)
Took my wife's 135i into a shop in the NW burbs of Chicago for walnut/carbon blasting. Before the cleaning, the car was sluggish and ran rough. After the blast, it was super smooth and responsive!! Felt like we gained 50 hp back. (like it was when it was new) Total cost was $300 and they treated both me and the car very well. Highly recommended, but don't want to break Forum rules by advertising non-sponsors, so if you want their website info, email me at petegtsv10@yahoo.com

I had my former 135i walnut blasted. The result was a $16,000 new engine after #5 piston exploded. All but $50.00 was covered under warranty but I traded the car within a week of picking it up.

Again, I am not commenting on this specific thing, about which I know next to zero. However I do know a lot about enthusiast internet forums, with all sorts of things that are recommended by self-appointed experts of one sort or another who live and post a lot on internet forums. You have to be careful, extremely careful, about following recommendations for things to be done of a technical nature on forums, especially if these recommendations are for having things done to your car, that you do not personally understand. Caveat Emptor. |

The N55 will not need a walnut blasting until it is up there in mileage (75k). I've seen several valves at 40-50k, they have some build up but definitely do not require a walnut blasting. Night and day from the N54. |

I now have 95K on my car and just had my second walnut blast. My Indy shop charged $500 and the car ran smoother idled better. Had the plugs done same time. I use Top tier gas now and was told that will help with the carbon build up. FYI been averaging 19.7 mpg since then, but no school last couple months so less traffic.
