Loved my 128 but just missed a manual trans to much.

No, traded a steptronic for a 6 speed manual, unfortunately losing that wonderful n52 sound in the process. Hopefully a better sounding exhaust will be available for the turbo four

why didn't you just trade it for a manual 128i?

why didn't you just trade it for a manual 128i?

128 production stopped several months ago and never could find a decent 128 manual

Nicely optioned 228i. I drove the auto and manual back to back, and surprisingly found the 8 speed to be a better fit. Quick shifts, and always in the power band. With a manual, I tend to rev the engine out more often- which is a bit moot in an engine that falls flat above 5k. That's just my opinion, and it's still a heck of an engine for a daily driver. Congrats OP.

Never drove the 128 but have driven lots of other BMW NA 6s. I drove the auto 228 the other day and was pleasantly surprised at the power band, snappiness and (enhanced) exhaust sound (at least in the cabin). I'd love to give the MT 228 a whirl. I had a 328 loaner with the n20 last year and thought it was a dud.

I have to be honest, I'm not loving the exterior changes though. Many of them I feel are far too Asian influenced. May grow on me though.

Report back when it's delivered!

sweet car build......i've have the sunroof, but other than that, it's perfect. looking forward to seeing the pics and your review / comparison with your old 128. good for you...im sure you're excited

Like your option choices. Agree w/ Mike Miller that simplest is best. In his Oct '12 Bimmer article he said the best 128 had manual, M-sport pack and xenons and that's it. Tough choice to give up the N52 but for me too, a manual is a must.
