Oil Consumption?

Picked up my 1M in early June, at about 1100 miles the low oil warning comes on...add a quart. Had the 1200 mile service just after, now at 2200 miles I had to add another quart. Anyone else have similar experience? Is this normal and will this diminish as the car gets more miles? Thanks.

Don't think this is normal. I'm at 12'000km without having to add any oil.

I had to add a quart between services on my 135 with the N54. I drove the 135 pretty hard and I know other's experienced the oil light on the N54 equipped 135's

I haven't had to add any oil.

Of course, I'm a member of the hard driving, seat the rings break-in school.

Unfortunately with the electronic dipstick the BMW mechanics have a hard time being 100% accurate with the oil level. This has been discussed in great detail over in the M3 section.

I HATE THE E-DIPSTICK!

My oil light came on at about 1500 miles when parked on a slight nose down incline. Went off with car on flat surface but I imagine it is close to low. E dip stick suks!

No use here. Apparently, an aggressive break in does work.

How aggressive, exactly, were you sir?

Pacific BMW aggressive?

5,000km. 2,000km service done. No oil added before or after. Exhaust tips get a little soot on the bottom of the tips, but no oil.

3500 miles and no oil top up either before or after the oil change. My old 135 needed a litre in 10,000 miles.

i was just going to post this today. my car has 5000 miles on the clock and i got that warning light yesterday. i added a quart and it did nothing! i had to add a second one and then it was where it should be. Two quarts of oil at 5000 miles? is this friggin normal? What is the deal. I did a somewhat agressive break it so i dont think its that.

As I said earlier, many many people experienced this with the N54 in the early 135's (I did). I only had mine for 18000 miles but I had to add oil around 6k miles and 16-17 k miles. I dont think I ever had to add 2 qts, but it does take it a LONG time to register the oil in the car. (Mine took 10-15 minutes after adding a quart for the light to go off). BTW, You should drop by the BMW dealer and have them add it. They usually have oil in the drop off service area (they are used to this). They will add it for no charge and send you on your way.

I also don't think break in style has anything to do with this and I expect many more people will experience the low oil light very soon
