Michelin PSS, 88y front ok?

Hi guys,

I just swapped out my RFT but I'm not sure if the load sizes are ok.

Front
225/40R18 88Y

Back
255/35R18 94Y XL

Is the 88Y ok for the front? I'm pretty sure I was quoted 92Y all around and I'm debating on going back.

I appreciate any advise, thanks!

On a side note. 225/255 sits well on a stock m-sport cabriolet. I had to remove my 12mm rear spacer but I think 10mm will fit fine.

given our Car's are around 3000 / 3500lbs .. an 88 index is 1235lbs maxload for the front per corner. Max 3500lbs/4 = 850 per corner (given how our car has a 50/50 weight distribution).. So i don't see theres anyway inserting an extra 400lbs per corner.

Even a car load full load of 200lb guys in the car will insert 200lbs per corner...

i have the same tires / size which ill be installing soon too

Thanks for the quick response Maxsensation, what about mixing star (front) and no star (rear)?

I'm sure you will like them. The ride is noticeably quieter and more planted than the RFT. You do loose some steering feel as others have said but it isn't as bad as my 225/40 winter square setup. I'm going to give it the summer then decide if I can live with it or upgrade to M3 front suspension bits.

Spent the night reading and comparing. Hopefully this information helps others.

Firstly starred (BMW spec) Michelin PSS come in 225/40 88Y and 245/35/ 92Y XL. Non starred 225/40 92Y XL, 255/35 94Y XL. Stock is front 85Y, rear 88Y.

If you were to mix and match:
Loads are fine as long as they are stock or better.

It is best if both are starred, but if not front star at the very least.

From online browsing, I'm guessing starred Michelins are created in partnership with BMW. They come stock on M cars so there has to be some further R&D involved. Realistically I won't use the tires to it's full capabilities. I haven't even broken them in yet but I can feel the difference, I wish I didn't have to wait 5 years for my RFT to wear out.
