EOI: Private Drift Night - SMSP
Hi guys,
I'm looking at organising private drift nights at the skid pan at Sydney Motorsport Park at Eastern Creek and I'm looking for expressions of interest. Date/s: TBC Time: Most likely 6-10pm either on a weeknight or weekend Attendees: 10 or less people Requirements: Roadworthy car, helmet, CAMS L2S License. It's possible that a CAMS membership could be organised for the day however the cost is $65 for a day and $105 for an annual license. You need to be with a CAMS registered club however. Cost: Most likely it will cost around $220pp. This would be the cheapest that I can make it based on the costs involved in booking the skid pan, security, licenses, public liability insurance etc. The cost will include dinner, drinks and snacks. How is the night run?: Everyone will be taking turns on the skidpan (one at a time only) for 3-6 minute sessions (yet to be decided on) on a rotational basis until our time is up. There will be a circle (or two) of traffic cones set up on the skidpan to attempt to drift around. The reason I am trying to organise this is because drifting is a lot of fun and unfortunately there aren't many options to do this in a safe and forgiving environment. The Formula Company do run a very similar night with an instructor and whilst they don't require a CAMS license they charge $300 a night. There are drift clubs around which charge approximately $180/day however for these you also need a CAMS license and there are about 40+ attendees. With these you also usually go out on the skidpan in groups of 4 which is a bit daunting and also involves much more risk. If you are keen on attending something like this, please let me know via pm, mobile, email etc and I'll put your name on some kind of mailing list. The only way I'll be able to organise this is if I get pretty much at least 9-10 people for each night so I need a good idea of who would be keen on coming before I book everything. Alex

Hey everyone, I just realised that a lot of people would be quite worried about the toll that drifting would take on the car and tyres. To reassure everyone, the skidpan is made from polished concrete and during the night will be completely wet. There is no tyre squealing or smoke so there is minimal tyre wear. No need to buy an extra set of rims and/or cheap tyres!

the mt cotton one up here does, and while it is GREAT for lack of traction and tyre wear, is terrible for filthying up cars. |

I would be interested.
For those who have not done SMSP skid pan it is a lot of fun and not too hard on your car. I have done a few with the BMW Club over the years and look forward to the next club day there in September |

There is a club that runs drift 101 days; plus SAUVIC run DECA motorkhanas at DECA in VIC. It's in Shep, few hours from Sydney I believe(I know some sydney people have come down before). It's $70, plus $100 for accom.
Check it out. Also, Winton have regular drift days. |
