Hangy down thing.
Never heard of or seen this application on any car before.
It's a detail piece for going faster. What do they call it? Last edited by sixburgh; 04-19-2014 at 02:12 PM.. |

Is this in front of the front tire or behind the rear tire? Hard to tell from the pic.
If it's in front, it's supposed to deflect air from the tire. If it's in the back then it's a little mud flap. |

They are air deflectors that reduce drag (and probably noise to some extent) around the tires... lots of cars have them. Are you sure you don't also have small ones in front of the rear tires?

They are the front air deflectors. They have a purpose as mentioned here.

Let's not kid ourselves, the more common use is "lets you know right before you're about to bottom out on a steep bank"

You mean reduce drag, huh?
Or is that a Freudian Slip?

I think they have more use than just air dams...if that is really true.
I know the rears, especially are made to protect the wheel and brake components. For example, if a stone, debris...etc comes in contact with the plastic piece it is suppose to deflect and brake off from the car...thus saving these more important components within the wheel and fender. I know this, because I hit a cone once exactly in this spot in my Z4M autocrossing, and it broke off. After research, I found this reason of why it separates so easily. |
