Bring tires from states

Have any-one done that? Are there any border fees associated for wheels and tires?

I have and paid GST and PST (now HST). No duty or other taxes. I did however drive down to the border and picked them up at a US receiving service in the US.

Hey 5354, which US receiving service did you use? I'm assuming it's close to Blaine, WA seeing you're from Burnaby.

Thanks.

Isn't Blaine the closest US border town to Vancouver? Is there one closer that I'm not aware of? When ever I go to the states from Vancouver I always cross at the Peace Arch or Truck crossing. There's one closer?

I brought them back with me from a trip to the US. I paid GST/PST and would have paid duties but I told them the tires were made in the USA (no duties thanks to NAFTA). If they're Japanese tires, expect to probably pay duties as well (unless you can show where they were manufactured).

I used Pacific mail and parcel. They were great. $8.00 per tire.

I just got tires. I actually have made two trips, one for my car and another time for my wife's SUV. Both times I ordered from tire rack. For my wife's SUV I actually just mounted them in the US and drove them across the border. Wal mart super centre mounts tires for $10.00 a tire. It is so much cheaper in the states.

If the tire is marked "Made in USA/Mexico/Canada" then there will be no duties. GST+PST will apply, of course.

My experience in buying many sets of tires over the years and bringing them across customs is that only once - the last time I went through - did they ask to see where they were made, and actually made me open up the packaging to check. They happened to be a set of Goodyears for my sister's car and, to even my surprise, were stamped "Made in USA" so the grumbly border guard was satisfied and no duty applied.

Even if duty were to be charged, I believe it is 5%... so still a huge cost savings for most tires buying in the US.

I also used Pacific mail and parcel for tires. Very simple to use and a BIG savings! No duty...just tax. I get most of my car stuff sent to Pacific mail and parcel ...great for detailing supplies etc.
