Mmm HJS. Where I will be going when the factory secondaries are used up eventually.

Do we even have room for HJS cats. They look massive in a nice way.

What about X pipe in 128 mids?

Also stig. Is our 128 midpipe diameter restrictive in any way? What do e36 guys run?

Guess who make an HJS catted mid.

Restrictions are generally more due to bends than diameter. Depends on the E36 application.

Stig, I just installed the AA tune on my N51 about two weeks ago. Noticeable improvement in power and smoothness. Also raised top speed limiter and fuel cutoff. Also tunes your car to optimize modifications (intake, exhaust, headers etc). It's the only tune I know of that is confirmed to work with N51. Definitely worth the money. Got it for Black Friday sale for $699 with the handheld tuner.

Would be good to get a dyno so we can see how it stacks up to N52 tunes.

So as an update, I was in Italy last week and visited Supersprint in person. I made a thread on it here:

Hey St|G, I realise you probably haven't had the supersprint muffler on by itself without the headers but I was wondering if you can describe how it sounds vs the performance exhaust (assuming you ever heard the exhaust in person) . Is it even more tame? It seems like from your description, it sounds similar to what you had on before which was stock with golf tee mod. Did you get this mostly for the weight reduction in that case rather than changing the exhaust note?

Stock to stock, I would imagine the Supersprint would be tamer than the PE. Since the PE has a touch of drone, I didn't want to risk it being exacerbated with the headers. The Supersprint unit is designed to work with the headers and still be drone free. I also went for it to eliminate the rattle I had from the golf tee mod.

That said, still added a bit more sound, and a much better note. I need to find the time to get a good recording session in.

Ok. I suspected that's the case since it seems like in the e90 forums, people who went PE + supersprint headers complained about excessive raspiness and/or drone. With how the exhaust sounds from your headers + stock muffler video (which seems great), I guess a quiet muffler would match it better.

Exactly my thoughts when I ordered it. It is my daily driver, and drone is absolutely unacceptable as a result.

Where did you order the muffler from and how much, if you don't mind me asking?

Ordered it directly from SuperSprint as at the time they were switching US suppliers. Normal price.

I think currently they would tell you to go to Turner:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-17...r-muffler.aspx

It's a pretty good option if you have headers to keep everything reasonable. If you find yourself in the area I could give you a demo.

I suspect it will be one of the rarer choices on here, but I couldn't be happier. It is absolutely ideal for a DD with headers.

In another thread, Obioban mentioned that you have one more piece of hardware going on before potentially dynoing your car.

SS section 1 or 2 deletes maybe? Either way, what are your thoughts? I've been look for a little more bark.

Having had a catless car before, never again. Which means if I do the SS mid section, I will be doing it with the HJS cats. The dollars to HP ratio is pretty low for that though, so it isn't particularly high on the list.

I don't want to get any hopes up, so I will keep you guys posted when the plan becomes a little more solid.

Never had a catless car or one without a resonator as well. I hear ya! I guess I'm just waiting for someone to test it before I jump on it.

Supersprint told me point blank is sounds pretty bad without the resonator. Having heard others that way, I'm inclined to agree.

resonator delete certainly isn't a sound most will like. I love the raspyness but i hate the gigantic exhaust pops i get on decel around 3-3.5k.

Basically, it sounds exactly like the old e36's with similar exhaust setups. I have a youtube video of my current exhaust setup(no primary's, secondary cats, and 135i muffler, no resonator) posted in the media thread for anyone wondering.

I will probably get the resonator welded back in to take care of those gunshots.. er i mean exhaust pops.

And such is why this is entirely subjective, I like overrun burbles.

Oh i love burbles, but i mean these are literally miniature explosions coming out of the exhaust. Enough to scare other drivers and pedestrians. I'll try to grab a clip of them one time, they specifically ONLY happen while decel from 3.5k down to 3k.

The other thing i really dislike about the resonator is if i'm decelling from above 5k it has this horrid raspyness that i really don't like. Safe to say i'll be having the stock resonator welded back on whenever i get the time to do so.
