So I got a speeding ticket during ED
Got this in the mail today:
From Zurich Police: Traffic violation Speed limit: 50km/h Actual speed: 51km/h You went over: 1km/h Fined: 40CHF What if I don't pay for it? Gonna send people over to Canada and collect it? FYI, here's the cam, they even tell you this is the one: http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=z%C3%BC...287.83,,0,4.62

WoW! For +1 kph over!!! That's the Swiss for ya! That must have been in the city limits right? Tickets are more harsh ($$$) inside city limits.
I don't think in Germany you would get a ticket until four or five kph over 50 kph.. Plus over here they give you a 3% discount for what ever speed you are doing before they acess any points or fine. |

Pay it. Someone else, who went on ED, didn't pay his Swiss speeding ticket thinking it wouldn't hurt him. He got regulated to the "no-fly list" for Switzerland. The Swiss wouldn't take him off even after he said he'd pay. He wound up having to rent a place in France and drive into Swiss for work everyday.

What's the calibration tolerance of this speed measurement device? Being over by 1 kph or 6/10ths of 1 mph seems like it might fall within the margin error of the unit’s calibration tolerance.
I would send them a letter back kindly letting them know you will happily pay the fine but you will first need the make and model of the speed measurement device, the date of last calibration, a copy of the certification of calibration, the manufacturer's tolerance specs on the unit and finally the manufacturers recommended calibration intervals. Once you have that information if the unit actually can measure that accurately and has been certified to be accurate and that certification falls within the manufacturers recertification timeline parameters then pay the ticket you bane to civilized society! |

I suggest you pay them in Canadian bacon.
Confused Swiss Customs officer: it says bacon, but it looks like ham!

Just pay it....it will be on record if you do not. Some countries exchange driver records. Between US and Canada, I know state of New York and Ontario share driving records. You get ticket in either, it shows in your driving records.

It's only about $45 Canadian Dollars so I would pay it. Not worth any hassle that may or may not come of it. If it was like a few hundred I would then weigh my options and consider not paying it.

lol it proves you did an ED
Man 1 km over the speed limit and you get all this drama. When I lived in Ireland, We only had 2 speed cameras in all of Dublin. It was fun to drive there. In the UAE you get a 20 KM over the speed limit until you get slapped with a what is equivilant to 120 euro speeding ticket for being 20 km over the speed limit and an aditional 20 euros for every 10 km/h over the speed limit till it hits 185 km/h/ abd you get a court case and loads of trouble. |
