That must be a recent change. The front plate on my car was attached with double sided tape for my Euro delivery.

I cant STAND the idea of wedging a sharp metal plate up inside your dashboard and window. Makes me cringe. I really really don't understand why people don't use double sided foam mount tape for the front bumper. Way cleaner looking than screws, no drilling, can even bend the plate slightly to perfectly match the contour of the bumper, lasts forever, and reversible. Have had mine mounted via foam for years, not a problem. That 3M tape costs like $2 at Home Depot..

I used black zip ties to secure left and right sides of license holder and attached them to grill in front of intercooler with bottom edge of holder angled inward, while top edge of holder rested on the bumper@ two points of contact(where the screws would go) with double sided body molding tape to prevent scratching.
The position of the plate changes/blocks some of the airflow to the intercooler but I don't think it matters for everyday driving. |

i stand corrected . i was going off my experience with MB (drilled holes) that led me to inquire about BMW who apparently will go with zip ties and double sided tape - perfectly appropriate imo!
