OT: Nissan GT-R

Sorry this is OT, but just had to share this news. Yesterday I got to drive a brand new R35 GT-R.. Not just tootle around, but really DRIVE it. A friend took delivery of it on Monday (first Aussie shipment), and he let two of us have a go on some back roads. My god that thing is fast, even with four adults in the car, and trying to limit the revs to 5000rpm (I admit it, I saw 6000rpm a few times). I have never experienced anything like it before. OK, there were a few dash squeaks, the trim is a bit budget in places, rear passengers taller than 5'6" will scrape their head on the rear window, and the transaxle is noisy when idling ... but still this is a genuine supercar in my opinion. Awesome machine!

I've always wanted to have a drive in a 911 Turbo, but why would I bother after experiencing THIS?

Lucky man!
While I think it's much uglier than the 911 (turbo or otherwise), it's pretty hard to knock what it can do for the money.

Had my first crash in many years yesterday. Buckled rim, broken headlight, dented pride. Luckily it was at only at about 20km/hr, on the Malvern Star...

Im sure he'll end up adding a Cobb AP and a midpipe. Then ask him for another drive, im sure you'll be shocked. Really shocked.

Already have! And there's a very good chance he'll join us if it's a Sunday morning run. Only problem is that he might bring his MINI Cooper S instead. The guy's got class!

BTW, I've replaced my original photo above with a better one. You can also see a heap more photos from the day at the following link:

That'd be a Navman or something. No Performance Box. When I left home on Saturday afternoon, I had no idea I'd be driving a GT-R the next day, so didn't take my toy. Shame. Next time. However, the GT-R does have a display of lateral and longitudinal G forces displayed live on the screen while you're driving (can't download the data though). We hit 1G in corners many times and not even a hint of tyre squeal!

here's a small demo of the dash I recorded.

You can select any gauge you want to display in any of the presets.

who cares about sat nav?

Driving places is fun, why have a computer telling you where to go. "in 100m, turn right" awesome. :P

I hate sat nav so so much, it takes the fun out of driving.

Im lucky to say that I've driven four of the new GTR's, they are absolutely awesome. In fact the last one I drove was 'chipped' and I back to backed it with a Gallardo Superleggera and the GTR definitely felt like it accelarated faster...
$150k odd unbelievable value for money

I went into the nissan dealership the other day to test the 370z and they got a shipment of GTR's in ready for delivery. Amazing cars. I didn't get to test drive one but I sat inside and got a good feel for the interior. The GTR looks so much better in person. Well done to Nissan. I have no idea how you fit 4 people inside though. The backseat looks more like a bench to me.

The backseat is definitely for shorties. I'm 5'6" and was hitting my head on the rear window. It'd be murder on a hot day. I found that if I slumped forward in the seat a bit, I had enough clearance to avoid banging my head (just). Legroom was OK for me considering the front passenger and driver were both around 5'10" or so. Check out the above link for some photos showing what it's like in the back.

F$%^& sitting in the back! Get a 750iL if you want a limo! Back seat... who cares.

Sounds like a blast Guran, I would love a drive in/of one of those little Nissans (note, I didn't say Datsun hehehe), own one... nah, to each his own but..... BANG for your buck it IS a huge winner, second place .. who cares.

Nissan has really done an amazing thing with the cars, now lets see if the owners have too many problems with them and their very delicate engine

The eye-opener is servicing costs. WHEELS magazine estimate it'll be ~$10k per year!

Two sets of front tyres (one set lasts two track days!) $3600
Front brake pads $1200
Front brake rotors $2500
Gearbox oil $1000
plus diff oil, engine oil, wheel alignment, and labour

... and that's getting mighty close to $10k! Ouch.

They also said that it is much more expensive than a 911 turbo, and that estimate of wheels was for the first year, I wonder how much they will charge for the 30, 60 and 100k Ouch!!!!!
