As a base routine, I always reset the odometer and average fuel consumption indicator after refueling. I rely on the odometer in combination with the analog fuel capacity meter, rather than on the range meter (OBC).

My 1M averages around 12/13 liter per 100km for city driving and around 10 liter per 100 km for highway driving.

Official fuel consumption figures released by BMW for the 1M:
  • Urban: 13.6 l/100 km (i.e. 17.30 mpg)
  • Extra-urban: 7.3 l/100 km (i.e. 32.22 mpg)
  • Combined: 9.6 l/100 km (i.e. 24.50 mpg)
Fuel tank capacity = 53 liter = average 13.25 liter per space on the fuel capacity meter (4 spaces).

Hence:
  • 600 km range = average 8.83 liter per 100 km (1 space = 150 km)
  • 550 km range = average 9.64 liter per 100 km (1 space = 137.5 km)
  • 500 km range = average 10.60 liter per 100 km (1 space = 125 km)
  • 450 km range = average 11.78 liter per 100 km (1 space = 112.5 km)
  • 400 km range = average 13.25 liter per 100 km (1 space = 100 km)
  • 350 km range = average 15.14 liter per 100 km (1 space = 87.5 km)
  • 300 km range = average 17.67 liter per 100 km (1 space = 75 km)
  • 250 km range = average 21.20 liter per 100 km (1 space = 62.5 km)
A Belgian owner quotes an average ranging between 25 and 30 l/100km (i.e. between 9.41 mpg and 7.84 mpg), though he has "a spirited driving style".

I usually don't drive on flat surfaces, always up and down and lots of short trips with a lot of traffic where the car doesn't warm up at all so I drive slowly, in this conditions I know that the consumption is around 17 liters/100 kms.

I reseted the average fuel consumption 3 tanks ago, and the average of this 3 tanks were 14 liters with some highway cruising at 160/180 kph and some runs to the limiter.

I also came to the conclusion that it's almost impossible to make an average of less than 10 liters in this car even when cruising at 100kph, the consumption is the same at 100kph or at 150/160kph (~10.5/11) which is strange.

How do you do those averages in city driving? I can't see myself doing less than 16 and I drive slowish around town. And also it doesn't seem hard to average 25 in this car if you drive fast which isn't great, the 911 997.2 averages 11 liters crusing at 200+ kph!! The same as my 335d, that's evolution right there!

Thanks, I didn't bought mine new it had 6000 klms on the clock so I didn't choose the options, I just searched for a VO one as it was the only criteria but it was and still is in perfect conditions.

Do you know if it's possible to change the silver surroundings for black ones in a BMW official dealer? And if it is how much does it cost? It's the only thing I don't like very much in the car.

In several countries (including Germany) the 1M silver trim ("Chrome Line") is a standard feature. The gloss black trim ("Hochglanz Shadow Line") is optional (option 760). It cannot be retrofitted, in principle. But be the first to give it a try.

According to my purchase order it was €103.31 + 21% VAT = €125.00 in 2011. According to the German specs list it was €100.84 + taxes = €120.00 in 2011 ("BMW Individual Hochglanz Shadow Line: hochglänzende schwarze Ausstattungsumfänge").

Both are nice. The vast majority on this forum prefers the "Shadow Line" (more sporty look) over the "Chrome Line" (more elegant look). But of course, that's just a matter of personal taste.

"Hochglanz Shadow Line" (High Gloss Shadow Line) (S760A)

- 22 clips | part# 51767162587 ($1.00)

"Chrome Line" (S346A)

- roof frame strip, right | Alu Matt | part# 51132996072 ($240.04)

Fellow Forum member reco53_///M did a shadowline retrofit when he bought his used 1M in Istanbul, Turkey. He has a thread about his car and when I contacted him via PM he mentioned to me this detail (his car was the first 1M I actually saw in person at the dealer in July 2011, mine was on order at that time, but it was chrome line at the dealer so he clarified that he changed to shadowline after he bought the car). So, I am assuming it is indeed possible to retrofit either through an official dealer or a good body shop if you can purchase the trim pieces. It might be a good idea to contact him about how he did it and also talk with someone from BMW Portugal.

There are some 1Ms here in Portugal, past week there was a black one just parked next to mine, in my city there are at least 8 that I know of, and it's not the biggest city in Portugal. We have some nice places to drive aswell but I guess germany is better, every time I go there the highways without speed limit are just a dream come true and also you have the nordschleife! Cheers guys.
Hello!

I also have a portuguese VO 1M! So we are two!!

I know Portugal got 28 1M car's.
At the moment, at least 3 cars were already imported, so I belive there are more than 30 1M car's rolling in our Portuguese sunny roads!
