Impressive Gearbox / Engine

I was initially impressed by when in 2nd and you let it slow down (without pressing any of the clutch, brakes or accelerator), it won’t get to a point where it stalls. It gently gives it itself some power to avoid the stall.

Then on a trip I was taking I was impressed/surprised when I realised I was traveling comfortably at 160km/h (and could have gone faster) while still in 4th.

All this on the 320. I shudder to think what the 6 cylinders are like.

My 6 cyl is just starting to show me what it has got, and it is great.

Euro 4 cyl motors are brilliant. Unlike the Japanese, the Euros are tuned for great low down torque and are much more drivable - surprisingly their performance always seems better than the numbers on paper would suggest.

It is for this reason that I stand by my choice for a Canadian 323i premium and sport!

every manual car i've driven does this, including a 95 vw, it's definitely not something unique to this car and this age.

???The 323 is still a 6-just "de-tuned" to 170 hp.

BTW I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with this engine.

Its actually 174 hp After driving one, seat of the pants tells you that you are in something not that far off from a 325i Definately worth it!

Doesn't let you stall? Is it the same on 6cyl versions too? That'd be great if it's true so I don't have to keep the clutch pressed in during those speed bumps.

That's why I was planning to have my left leg cut off and replaced with a mechanical one!

Who keeps their clutch pressed in during speed bumps?

2nd gear can pretty much go to 1mph without stalling on ANY car. No need to clutch in and out just for a speed bump, just brake in 2nd and speed up again right after.

Cared about my car too much more than the comfort of my left leg.

I've recently tried some manuals to test this and they were not up to the test.

I tried this on my car today in traffic, and the 6cyl models do it too.
