Is the 15K free maintenance service just an oil change??

I have been looking for some sort of schedule or details of what is done also. You should have gotten an additional book for Service and Warranty Information that has some details about what needs to be done to the car. It seems like they only change the oil and oil filter. And after every 3rd oil change they also change the air filter.

There is no "15k" free oil change. The first oil change comes after the countdown mileage (indicated on the dash when the car is started) has elapsed - or one year, whichever comes first. My reading of the service manual indicates that only the oil & filter change is done with the remainder of what used to be "Oil Service" checks occurring when the "Vehicle Check" is called for - see pp.7 & 8 of the service manual. All of this service (except for brake rotors) is free in the US during the warranty period.

Currently, my 128 shows 13,000 miles to the oil change and 18,000 to "Vehicle Check", so these have been separated out, unlike previous BMW models.

A funny story I heard during the new owner clinic is that a guy called SA in BMW center to schedule an oil change service. The SA asked why? The guy replied that my car has 15000 miles now. The SA asked what the dash board display tell you? The same guy who attened the clinic also told me that in the end the first oil change was done at 18000 miles (He drove a lot as a new owner).
My other friend has followed this ~15K oil change for years and said the car is just fine, no problem.
I'll also follow this guideline. By the way, a lot posters change oil more frequently.

took mine in to be serviced in italy, which is out of pocket for me because of the different warranty program here. even as a cash paying customer, the SA told me i'd be throwing my money away because the car is truly smart enough to gauge when the oil needs to be changed. he put my key in a box connected to his pc and told me i needed an oil change earlier than the schedule, but that it still wasn't ready to be changed at 7500 miles.
