It is not an exact quote, rather an "informed estimate". Trivett Classic in Parramatta, Sydney

Sigh. Too expensive. Under $100k then maybe... What does a 135i cost in Australia? I thought they were about $80k...

At a base price of $125K + options, I would rather have a used M3.

I know the 1M and M3 will be completely different cars but getting a used M3 is like getting a 2nd hand 335i over a brand new 135i IMO. I know the engines will be different but it will still be something spectacular.

Back to the original question...

If the 1M turns out to be what we all hope then I would seriously think about changing.

If it isn't then the next car might have to be a Cayman S...

Cayman S is a beautiful car, you really can't go wrong. Although, if you are doing it mainly for the handling side of things you should really take the 1M for a test drive or come for a ride with me now that I've got the V2's. It's day and night.

If the 1M is 100k it's going to be hard not to trade up though... I think that's a bargain price by our Aussie pricing standards.

If the on-road price will be $125k + options, I think I'll wait a few years for a second hand 1M to come on the market before considering trading up.

That's about right because the difference between m3 and 335 coupe is about $40000 +
So the 1m its about $40000 above the 135.
USA released imfo on the 1m 350bhp.

120K OTR is my breaking point. There are too many good car in this kind of $.

Also has to have all the features as per the rumours. LSD, wider tyres, 360hp, quad exhaust, etc etc. Hopefully all options standard too

I am thinking it's going to be 350 really. However, as they talked about weight a bit, although it's not typical a M car is lighter than the donor car, I have hopes that this might be the case here.

Unfortunately, from the latest photos, it's going to be a fake quad.

Not so much for the handling (although it's an obvious upside). Not as many around as 1 series coupes, always wanted a mid-engined car and Jessica says we have to own a Porsche at least once in our life .

I think the main reason for moving, would be because I feel a bit like I'm wasting a 'new car' on a car which I essentially have. Plus this shape will be outdated by the time it is released. I am worried by the time it came to sell the 1M, that shape is going to be so old nobody will want to buy it!

I know where you're coming from. The 1M is being released right at the end of it's life cycle and soon we'll start seeing the next gen 1 series hatchback. You'd almost be more inclined to wait for the F20 version of the 135i which should still be around the same 80k price-point and I imagine that would come out around 1.5 - 2 years after the 1M gets here which wouldn't be bad timing for a lot of us, me especially.

The more I think about it, I don't know if the 1M is worth the estimated 40k premium over a 135i plus you need to factor in taking a hit for getting rid of our 135i so soon.

Have you driven the Cayman S yet? I haven't but I imagine it's a much more raw sports car and I imagine a great weekend car. What about the practicality side of things? It would be a tough call deciding between a 1M and Cayman S for me.

Comment was made that prices were around $100k. I'm thinking that's a bit on the lean side. Wierd comment from "Dave" down the bottom about 1'ers being a "fat chicks car". Maybe Dave is taking his SS ute back to have the tail-gate latch fixed...

I'm with BMW86, as owning a Porsche "one day" is an aspirational dream of mine, and if a 1M is the same price... it would be a very tough call indeed.

Nice find mate. If these do come in at 100k I think there will be a back log of orders because that will be a bargain price for an M car. I don't think Audi and Benz will be able to compete with that price point.

I too have had the Porsche dream for many years until my neighbour bought his Ferrari F430 which he drives every weekend without fail and has it parked out on the driveway cleaning it every other day. I'm afraid owning a Porsche just won't cut it anymore, I need a Ferrari now.

Look like I'll be keeping my 135i for a long time but I'm definitely not complaining

I've driven the Cayman (and I also had an old-series Boxster for 7 years). To me, it is a completely different driving experience between the Boxster/Cayman and a 135i or even an M-car. The Porsches feel more like sports cars than the BMWs, probably due to the mid-engined layout, unbelievably communicative steering, lighter weight and lower centre of gravity. The BMWs feel like luxury coupes, albeit exceptionally good ones.

I bought my 135i because I wanted to try something a bit different, not because I didn't like the driving experience of the Boxster/Cayman. This may change depending on what else gets released before I change cars in another 5 years, but a Cayman S is currently top of the list.

Main reason I am thinking Cayman is because I will be getting a cheapo car to go to work in soon. I do way too many K's (42,000 in just over a year)... So will use the Porsche as a weekend/night car.

Maybe down the track I would be thinking an older model F430 or 360 Modena Ferrari for weekends as I could pick up a 360 now for $180k which is M3 money! No brainer as to which I would rather be driving on the weekend.
