1M Value

Do you guys think the value of my 1M will be reduced if I powder coat my wheels or install an aftermarket exhaust? Thanks for the input

No, you can easily replace the wheels and put the stock exhaust back on.

If it matters to you, value will increase when seen through your eyes.

Market value is a different story, though.

Prospective buyers are not always as enthusiastic about options and after market gizmos as you might be. Quite some (especially those who like Q-cars [all go and no show]) will prefer to get the original parts (OEM) retrofitted, especially if the mods aren't street legal or experienced by them as a nuisance (too loud, to 'screamy', etc.) or simply because resale policy does not allow mods (for example resale to an official dealer in exchange for a new car). Keep the original parts for possible retrofitting. At resale day you might part out the mods to enthusiasts willing to pay a decent price for it.

Also, prospective buyers might associate 'modded' cars with a certain driving style and approach/philosophy which possibly affects the longevity and integrity of the car parts (perception/prejudice regardless of the real status of the car).

Finally, installing certain mods might void the warranty. Void warranty = lower resale value.

Powder coated wheels and an aftermarket exhaust ? Let's settle for a status quo of the market value of the car.

My €0.02.

I wouldn't powder coat the stock wheels if there is even a slight chance that you might sell this car sooner than you plan/wish.

Powder coating presumably affects wheel strength

If you plan to sell anytime soon then yes. But prices are dropping by themselves. 1M's aren't going for 60k+ any more. Instead they are at low 50's now.

winter time affects prices, come spring you will see prices rise again. if you think about it, these cars are still fetching sticker price almost 2 years old now.

Thanks for all the feedback. It is very helpful. I can't say I'm planning to sell the car but I will get the bug for something else eventually. It's really nice to have some equity in a car for once and I don't want to blow that

Equity in a car? LOL People have to realize 1M is not an investment vehicle stop trying to resell it to make money and start appreciating the car for what it is

My tag renewal notice says that I have a M1.

This thing is already worth 4 times what I paid for!!!!

Sweet.

If you are concearned then pick up a used set of OEM wheels and powder coat them. Then when it comes time to sell you can put originals back on and sell the powder coated ones separately.

Problem solved.

Most cars are not purchased to gain equity and I am not making money on the car but unless you don't care about your bank account, resale value matters.

OK, then limit her shoe collection to only ONE pair of boots too.

The wheel prohibition will be overruled in no time.

That's the thing! She is pretty frugal. I am not.

314 million in the USA.
Conservatively 780 out of 790 still on the road or in the country.
That's one car for every 402,000 and change for each person here.

Take care of it and you'll see minimal depreciation and perhaps a nice bump in value in a couple of decades. It's not a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster, but it is rarer. If you want it to remain collectible, then I think you will have to keep the car largely unmodified.
