Who would like my 2012 1M allocation

Very sad to say this, but unfortunatly I am going to have to pull out of the 1M due to some unforseen circumstances.

It is from Canterbury BMW and I was estimated a delivery from March to May

I have a contract of sale with $1000 deposit. Does anyone know if I will get this back??

I am yet to advise the dealer of my intention to cancel as I wanted to offer a forum member the chance to do the swap.

Its for a AW but sure you can change colour and options as not being built till jan/Feb

Let me know

Cheers

Aidan

Now or later, I'm sure your dealers and others should be able to find a buyer from their waiting lists.

Is there any chance your circumstances could change at later date? Given your lead time to Apr/May delivery, perhaps hold off till build date?

It's a new and desirable car and should move quickly, now or later on. Just a thought.

I do

OP, I'd be all over that like a whore covered in cocaine if my lease expired sooner. Unfortunately it's about 1 year too early.

Come the delivery date i was looking to finance $56K over 5 years with a monthly repayment of 865 and balloon of just under $20K

My financial advisor believes I should not be that commited that much as I'm not putting enough away in saving each year. He showed me where I would be in 5 years with the lease and without the lease.

I had intentions of keeping car for good but it does delay me getting ahead of my finances by 5 years or so. Hes thoughts are put in the work now (i'm 28) and then when I'm late 30's and 40's have the cash flow to buy cars.

so hard...

If you live that long... . Seriously, I understand the sensible financial options, but I am of the opinion that if you put off everything until later, you may never live to enjoy it. Comes from having had a couple of relatives and close friends who died way too young, and didn't get to enjoy the fruits of their labours, so to speak.

Personally, I like balance in these decisions...I don't put myself in ridiculous financial stress, but at the same time I don't put off things I really really want simply because I want to have more money later.

Each to their own though...you've got to do what's right for you, and only you know what that is; not your financial adviser, and certainly a bunch of people you hardly know on an internet forum!

Garage List
Jude is right, it's all about balance.

I think a good compromise would be a well kept 2nd hand 135i. I tested an 08 S3 just prior to the coupe's launch and it was a no brainer which way to go.

You don't know what's going to happen in 5 years time - not even tomorrow. If you can afford it then buy it. A pretty bank balance means nothing if you can't enjoy life.

If you are in a position to pull it off and come off well, you should do it, it's an incredible car.

That said, I might be in the minority here, but I believe that we must all make certain sacrifices - if it means you'll be that much better off in 5 years, then that's what must be done. Our generation really needs to learn this. Also, everything is relative, it's really not like anyone is suffering with 135i or an S3!

For me personally, I absolutely love my car and it's amazing. However, if it means affects my plans and what I want to achieve - it'd make do with a Excel - at least a used Mini Cooper!

There needs to be a balance, but only Hazey knows where that balance is. My biggest regret was my first bimmer - it basically put me back by about five years.

A car is an expense. Despite how good the 1M might be, there will always be better and nicer cars to buy in the future.

You might want to ask yourself some of these questions:

Do you have a high enough passive income to cover the loan repayments?
If you sell all your assets, would you be able to cover the car loan and left with a decent amount?
Is your income so high that it is not going to make a dent in your funds for investment?

One thing I can certainly tell you though is going into negative territory in your balance sheet is definitely a bad idea.

You need to celebrate wins in your life and indulge yourself. However, you need to decide what is sensible and what is not. Only you can make that decision.

As the guys have said, it's a personal thing, balance, financial planning etc and only you would know and feel the right answer.

I believe a lot of us have had to cross similar bridges in the past and know it's tricky. It's a heart v head thing... I don't envy you.

If you are laying out $45-50k cash for a new or used performance car, there are many options other than a 08 S3.

Staying with German - used 135i, new Golf R and new Scirocco R. At GTI/R32/R/Scirocco R/S3 level, I believe the Audi is overpriced and overrated (sorry Liam) as they are all substantially the same vehicle. The Viper Green Scirocco R is an awesome looking vehicle

Good luck

I hate cars....especially German ones. When I look back at the $$$ I have burnt on 8 new BMWs in 12 years it makes me want to cry. It's been a lot of fun though when you're pushing 48 you have the benefit of a lot of hindsight. You just need to be able to reconcile your heart with your brain - and be ready to accept the consequences of which ever choice you make.

Hazey your stance is to be very much admired, good on you.

However, I'll just leave you with this: the 1M is much better than a 3yo S3.
