Recommendations for camber plate install north of Boston MA?
Hey all,
I have some front camber plates to put in my 1, not really interested in DIY. Can anyone recommend a place to do the install? Also need a good place to do an alignment afterwards. Getting closer to having these new rims installed! |

I'd at least talk to Turner Mortosports. They should be able to do both the install and the alignment. Not sure about their shop rates, though.

I would definetly let someone with a floor mounted spring compressor do it if your using stock springs. otherwise its a no go (learned the hard way)

Glad I could be of service! I got that reccomendation from terry fair himself. I am more of a screw up than a pioneer though, lol. We raised the front a 1/2" today and it really made the ride height the same from front to back. It also improved the ride quality it seems. I am guessing because it shifted some weight to the rear. your near nashua right? If so, ask rachel about her specialty bmw place. They can probly do it for you.

Now your dash lights are out? Holy cow, this is really a project for you. How did you raise the front, you said "You can raise the strut in the spindle. I am going to take a half inch stainless steel piece to put between the strut tab and the spindle". What did you use to for the piece of steel?
I'm thinking that because my springs and shocks are stock, the camber plates will make my fronts higher than the stock setup (maybe even higher than the rears). Theoretically, i should have more fender clearance than a lowered setup, but hopefully not a stupid looking stance. my tpms are here. camber plates are "in the mail" and i have yet to order tires, although i'm pretty much set on 245/35 & 275/35 Hankook V12s. I'm in Medford, about 2.3 miles north of Boston. I could go to Nashua if need be. I'll call landshark in Natick that was recommended in the RI install thread, too. |

LOL, the dash lights out are a good thing! I had the ABS, Brake, and DCS lights on because I broke a wheel speed sensor during an install.
you wont really gain all that much height (1/8" max) because the stack height of the camber plate is still pretty much the same. Also, I do not think you can raise the strut in the rear because it screws in back there instead of being clamped in the front.

ahhh, the bad dash lights are out. cool!
i won't worry about the height. the camber plates arrive on Monday and i'm looking for installation the following week. it's going to be a tight schedule to get the new stuff on for my first event (non-bmw event). |

I've installed one of the camber plates with the help of a friend and now I'm thinking about doing the other diy too, but was wondering how far can you drive the car after the install, considering the toe-out is waaaay off, to get to an alignment shop? Is 15 miles too far?

I believe the toe will be in and pretty badly at that. The guy at my alignment shop wouldnt even drive it around the block like that. Hopefully larry can chime in and explain how he made his driveable before he made it to the alignment shop. adjusting the tie rod ends?

The rims are mounted and look... amazing. I'm psyched. Alignment tomorrow (thursday) and i'll post pics asap. I've changed the alignment shop to one about 1 mile away from where the car is right now. |
