I can say after 400 mi mine is holding up well, although it is a refurbished unit.

How are you guys out of warranty fairing? Any luck getting some of the cost covered?

Hey guys, looking for more info - is this a known defect that has an extended warranty ie the n54 turbos (?) I am close to ending CPO and mine had a leak before that was fixed before I got the car and I need to know if I should get an extended warranty from BMW. Thanks in advance

I don't think there is any special warranty. Some leak, some don't. If your cpo is running out I would get under the car and look for yourself to see if there are any leaks. If you see something, tell the SA it's leaking and have then fix it. Don't take your car asking to check for leaks, its possible they say no when there is one.

I can say, mine was very easy to spot. I just looked under the car and the entire underside pan had oil all over it.

One thing to note, if your oil pan gasket is leaking, the DCT undertray can end up covered in oil, which at first glance would make you think your DCT is leaking. Any drips get blown back and the first thing they hit is the plastic DCT tray.

Make sure to do more than just glance underneath. I have this exact scenario on my 2012 DCT.

If there are any leaks should I get another warranty to be safe? My worst nightmare is imagining the whole thing going out and paying $10k out of pocket.

only you can decide if you want an extended warranty.

what I would do is getting underneath the car and see if there are leaks, not only for the DCT, but for anything else, such as the oil pan gasket. Also take a look at the OFHG and see if that is leaking. if you see any leaks, take it to the dealership and say I see there are leaks please diagnose.

My DCT oil pan and mechatronic plug gaskets were both replaced. DCT is not leaking a drop of oil and its been a couple of years. Probably only 10k miles in those two years, but it isn't leaking.

3 strikes, you're outta here!

Currently having my DCT replaced entirely (CPO). Hopefully the new trans build will have resolved this issue. I'm not hopeful. I'll be keeping a close eye on this for the life of the car. The next time I see oil I'm going the SSP perfomace seal route. Not happy with Getrag or BMW.

I had to bring back my old stock comfort seats so the dealer could re-program the car with the old seat modules. Good grief.

UPDATE:
There is a very good option for those out of warranty and close to Toronto. Steve Lenz at SJL Custom Auto in Barrie is a true legend with all types of DCT gearboxes. He can rebuild every component of your transmission; clutch baskets, seals, and properly re-learn everything. He may be one of a handful of truly talented specialist out there who knows these gearboxes better than the engineers who built them. He also uses SSP components. If anyone is experiencing any jerkiness or oil leaks, he is your guy.

With the new transmission in, I have absolutely no jerkiness at crawl speeds and everything seems very crisp, fast, and smooth. Feels like a new car!

Awesome! Mine was great after I had mine replaced. You should be in the clear I would think. I did end up trading my can in this spring for a Focus RS.

Good luck!

If you can believe it, the ride is even more firm, the sport suspension setting is totally unusable. Other than that, it is nice to have some of the tech (apple car play) but the stereo is not as good as even the base one in my 1 series.

Power is deff an upgrade however, you do have to rev it up more to get it. You can really feel the torque vector throw you around the corners under heavy throttle. That took some getting used to. You don't feel the push from the back at all, the car is 60% FWD so you almost feel like you are being pulled along.

The trim is inside is nice, all soft touch and decent quality. You can tell when you shut the doors it's not a regular Focus. Feels solid. My only complaint about the interior is that the seats are not full leather. They have cloth middles which is odd for what you pay. Also the seats are VERY tight until they break in.

Overall it's not a BMW, but it feels like it just wants to accelerate and turn, the turn in is very sharp and fast.

Anything specific you wanted to know?

You pretty much nailed most of it, the comment about being pulled instead of pushed sort of surprised me a bit. I've had a couple of GTIs and definitely can't tell the difference between being pulled and being pushed. You miss the 1er??

Not yet, it's still early. Mine was just coming out of warranty so that was a big factor for me. I now I have a 5 year 100K bumper to bumper warranty so the peace of mind is nice.

It's deff a nice car with tons of power. I was unprepared for the level of attention it gets though. People will literally take pictures of it while you are just trying to leave the gym parking space lol. I also had a bike pull up on the shoulder next to me just to make a comment.
