Also, if accurate, DAMN. This will be a rare car.

Those were estimates for North America. It's possible that there might only be 680 in the U.S.
But seriously OP we need more info. PM me please!

Exactly. Assuming Musclez source is correct and Canada gets 200 that would be correct.

If that's right, no wonder it's so hard to get one, the US only got 180 more then the UK? Currently, the UK only has roughly 1000 registered 135i's, that's a pretty good ratio of 1M's to 135i's. Wonder what the ratio is going to end up being in the US.

MM,... Any hints as to the source at least?
I have no idea how much weight to give your statement. I see you post often, thanks,.... but not sure that necessarily indicates solid insider info. And if 680 is true - why would it be a closely held secret? |

As written a couple of days ago, a recent South-African review of the 1M (Oct 13, 2011) (http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/road-t...ight-1.1156742) quoted a specific production figure for worldwide production:
"The 1 Series M Coupé is a factory-built hot rod limited to 2452 units worldwide, of which only 71 were allocated to South Africa and all are accounted for already. " This is lower than the 2700-ish production figure which was regularly quoted in the past. BMW Blog in January 2011: "In the US, BMW has not officially confirmed the number of 1M units available, but some of our sources hinted to around 600 units. In a workshop we attended with Dr. Kay Segler, BMW M boss, he said there is no limit on how many 1M’s can be built." http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/01/17/bm...mited-numbers/ So the 680 figure is in line with that early message. Comparison: production of E46 M3 CSL (2004): only 1383 cars - was not for sale in the US. It seems that the European market gets approximately the same number of 1Ms + ± 1000 RoW (US, Canada, Australia, South-Africa, etc.). However, the initial allocation for Australia (100 1Ms) was doubled this Summer. "The extra 100 units will roll into Australia through the first three quarters of 2012, eked out of a production boost that finishes mid-2012". http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-new...831-1jl2l.html |

Oops, don't know why I was thinking 500, still a lot considering they only sold an average of 250 135i's a year.

What actually surprises me is that people are still finding "New" cars for sale at dealerships- you would think that with only 680 cars being brought to the US, this car would have sold out months ago...

They aremaking as many as they can until early next year. The us will only get the 600 to 800 due to the emissions, but the rest of the world is wide open.
I talked to the guys at the m studio while taking Ed about 3 weeks ago.
