PSS on special

Just an FYI

Tirerack are having a special on PSS in sizes 225/40/18 255/35/18 for just under $1k for the set. Brings it in very nicely under the tax threshold. Otherwise your looking at $1200 plus the inevitable taxes if after promotion period.

Does anyone know how much a set cost in Australia?

Rung around and they don't have PSS listed? They gave me prices for the pilot sport 3 instead. $2600! You kidding me!

not many local dealers knows about the PSS. In any case they'll be around $600-700 if sourced locally. Bit of no brainer to get it from tirerack or better yet.. PM Vans

I just got a set from tire rack. Still makes me laugh 2 tyres taped together with shipping docs stuck to the tyres.

I just got PS3's put on the front 225/40/18's and they are a great tire. Paid $300 each fitted and balanced. Normally around the $400 mark each. My mate owns the place and said not much in it between PS3's and PSS's.

They are. Apparently PSS is one level higher than the PS3.

PS3 is not an upgrade of PS2. PSS is the upgrade of PS2.

PSS or PS3? I'm worried the PSS will wear out quickly but read so much good things about them.

The bridgestone rft on the rear have worn out after 10k but then they have a wear rating of 140 where has the PSS and PS3 have 300 and 320 respectively.

FWIW - As a comparison price point - not a tyre performance comparison point. I understand that the PSS & PS3's are a more expensive / better tyre.

I just had all 4 RFT's replaced with ContiSport3's, in 225/255 for $A1160 fitted and balanced.

They ARE parallel imports, so same as if you got from tirerack. I went this route because by the time you factor in freight and fitting, it's much of a much'ness. In fact, for some reason, the ContiSport3's from tirerack are $US1070, so ~$A1010 plus shipping & fitting - so could have been more expensive in the final wash. Clearly, at that price you'd go for the PSS at $US984, so ~$A930 plus shipping & fitting.

And I didn't have to play Tetris with the tyres back and forth to the fitter (yes, I know I could have them shipped directly). So all in all, seemed simpler, at no extra cost.

I've been running PSS since Novemeber last year and the wear rate is fantastic. I've done 3 track days and apart from shoulder wear on the front tyres, they have plenty of life in them. I suspect that I could get 2 if not 3 more track days from these. The rear wear is pretty even across the surface.

On the road they are quite, and ride much better than the RFT.

For what it's worth guys/gals the PS3 is the euro version of the PSS. The below statement is from the motortrend review of the PSS. My buddy picked up the PS3's last year from a German tire shop and has loved the hell out of them. They actually were released here in Germany before the states got the PSS's. I'm about to drop dime on the PSS through tirerack myself.

The U.S. market gets Michelin PSS as will the European market will get the same tires, but they will be called PS3 in Europe.
