How to remove plastic jack pads?
The plastic jack pads on my car are pretty destroyed from putting the car up on jackstands and I need to replace them. I put the car on ramps last week and there is no obvious way to remove the jack pads. Anyone have any experience?

for what it's worth, my dealer replaced all 4 of mine for about $30. The car was already there, so I just had them do it for me.

Yeah, but I'm replacing mine with a different style of jack pad.

Just a plastic clip that holds em to the unibody. Clip is in dead center of the pad.
Either carefully pry open the clip.....Or just use a large flathead screwdriver and pry the entire pad aware from the unibody till the little clip snaps. |

I did this with one of the pads. Mark is right about the location being dead center, I would also suggest that if you plan on using a screw driver to pry it out that you cover the screw driver with a towel to avoid going through the paint down there. It did require some serious force to get that bad boy out!!! Good luck, patience is key with these things.

I haven't seen the contruction but would drilling a hole in the center help?

 So I push in this little hole in the middle? ^ It seems like I need to find a way to push in the two tabs on the sides. This is frustrating...

What jackpads are those SlickShift? Can you list the part numbers for us so we can change them out?
I know I want to because I hate seeing those pads hanging so low when viewing the car from the side.

The ones that are not as tall are for the e88. The e82 are taller (it says this in the referenced thread I just looked at). I looked for a couple minutes at realoem and didn't find the jack pads but they are probably there. I did find a trailer hitch for a 128 (european styple though).

If you are simply replacing them, whack them with a hammer from the side, and the clips will break. I've knocked a few off from autocross cone carnage before. It should be fairly easy to do.

I might just try the hammer approach. I'm attempting to replace my jack pads with the ones that came on the E46 3-series. They're a lot more durable. The jack pads on my 1er were trashed after putting the car up on jack stands only a couple times.

question.. if you remove the stock plastic pads, cant you put a jack stand under the area the pad was mounted to without any pad? If the metal is strong enough to support the car in that area, surely the little plastic pad isnt required.. is it?

Yeah, I guess. As long as you're not jacking it up on the side skirt. I think the main reason the jack pads are there is because the jack that used to come with BMWs fit perfectly in the concave surface of the jack pad.
