Service Light?

When I start my car the "Service" light comes on for a few seconds.

How can I tell what service needs to be done?

I do not have idrive so my menu doesn't really tell me anything.

Was the word "service" in yellow or red? Yellow means make an appointment. Red means it is overdue.
It is a scheduled service based on miles driven and type of miles driven.
It's now CBS. Condition based service.

My car's service light just came on a few weeks ago. Today it is in for service. I can let you know what they did, once I know.

Probably a recommended BMW vehicle check/inspection, which comes up every 30,000 miles I think. My dealer charges $140 I believe.

Push the up/down button on the left stalk until the display says SERVICE-INFO, then press the BC button. Use the up/down button to scroll through the different services.

There are icons for:
- service
- oil
- state inspection
- front brakes
- rear brakes
- brake fluid

and it will show the miles remaining or the date due.

To reset any of them, turn the car on fresh, hold down the trip meter button, use the up/down button to get to the service you want, then hold down the BC button.

I had it in for an oil change a few months ago and they said I was coming up on a brake fluid change soon so it might be that. I haven't been driving it much due to the shitty weather though.

I said just hold off until I replace the actual brakes, which should be pretty soon methinks.

The car just had its 5th birthday the other day.

I just wanted to see if that was the only thing I needed to do.

Run through the above. If indeed its the brake fluid / brakes (front/rear) you can adjust the service intervals out as needed.

My service light showed a fault on the boost solenoid. Replaced. Now I have a half full yellow engine light. I love driving to the dealer.

Don't know the code yet. Dropping it off today. Half full yellow engine icon came on again this morning. Reduced power until I restart the car then all is normal for awhile.

They just had it in there last week!!!

I scrolled through the menu and in my case it is, I believe, the brake fluid.
Its hard to know what all those symbols are for. I just turned 47k and 5 years.

There's a summary in the manual on the symbols. The brake fluid service indicator looks like this:
