Dealer refused to inspect Waste Gate
Waste gates on car are sounding real bad. Took car to dealer and mentioned TSB on turbos and wastegates. Service advisor said TSB doesn't cover wastegates.
Wanted $135 just to look at car. I didn't go for that. Seems wrong to charge when BMW has issued a TSB on this. |

Sounds like utter garbage from the dealer, the tsb specifically covers wastegates.....id take my business elsewhere.

I would expect a dealer to look into the problem, since there is a TSB on the wastegates, for free. If the wastegates are fine, and you wanted them to continue diagnosing, then I would expect to pay for that.

Something does not seem right here...
Let us know how it turns out. If it is indeed the wastegates, they will NOT charge you for any of the repair. However, initially every dealer needs to charge for the 1hr labor, just in case their time is wasted because it is something else rattling. You would be surprised by the outrageous complaints some customers tell the dealers, only for it to turn out to be a completely different problem. |

Rattle is described as "normal" in the warranty extension bulletin. For those who think its a recall, you're sadly mistaken. It's based on customer complaint or if there is a fault regarding the turbo, and parts related to the wastegate are found to be the cause. There is a difference between wastegate rattle, which is deemed as normal, and a defect in the wastegate. It would have to be described as a distinct clanking sound occurring 6-7 times on decel from about 2500 rpms, as dackle probably posted above.
The diag time would not be charged if the turbos are found to be defective and are covered by warranty. It's the same as a CPO covered repair. The customer pays diag until they determine if it is a CPO covered defect. Hasn't any one else experienced this in the past? It seems pretty simple to me... |

Mine did too. Said the car needed to throw a code before they would do anything, because that's the only way for them to reimbursed from BMWNA.

My dealer said that if a code isn't thrown, they can have a BMWNA representative look at it and approve of the repair. They apparently show up bimonthly(at least at my local dealership.)

Well then. Based on what I am reading it would appear that the wastegate(s) in my car are not defective. The sound is exactl as described in the bulletin.
Having said that, it is curious how the rattle only started a few months ago. In the previous four years I never heard this rattle. It is the reason why I believed something had gone wrong.... |

Go to a different dealer....
I bought my 135i from someone in atlanta and that same dealer wanted the same 135 diag fee when i complained about a problem and the car had over 2 years of warranty left. THey just didnt want to look at the car and / or they wanted to get double paid. |
