Might be your valvecover. There’s a few videos floating around. I had mine replaced around 55k miles
Well, I THINK it goes away when I accelerate but that could be because of added noise from the engine/exhaust when stepping on the gas.

I already have OE water pump & thermostat, and a gallon of BMW coolant to mix 50/50 with distilled water. Also have the pair of OE BMW OFHG's- so parts are ready!

Just need a nice weekend and will drain all the coolant & the oil, replace the parts, then fresh coolant & basic oil change with filter. It should be easy, just a bunch of steps to go through

I'll probably start on a Saturday, pull the bumper and intercooler for plenty of room to access the water pump & thermostat. Dropping the intercooler just to make access easy for both the water pump bolts and to drain the coolant... Easy job on the OFHG with everything drained. Reassemble from the bottom to the top, fresh oil & 50/50 coolant.

Then I can wait to see what's next- turbos/wastegate rattle, oil pan gasket maybe? If nothing else pops up I've got to change the diff fluid, brake fluid and then trans solenoids with the next trans fluid- so, you know, normal BMW...

Oh heck yeah-

Daily driver baby
And I drive it with authority too, aggressive and fast. Considering I'm an old man, I'm that asshole who prefers fast flow and wishes you'd just hold your line in traffic... I've already planned my route to four cars in front of you, so, please..., just hold your line....

Rush hour traffic is/are just the autocross cones of my normal commute.

Which is why I need to be on top of all this maintenance

I did a coolant flush not long ago and discovered there’s a crack in the plastic housing around my radiator. Hence why my car has seemed to be drinking coolant over the last few months. It’s a small crack. I’m waiting for summer to pull the trigger on a CSF aluminum radiator lol

Just replaced the front brake pads. What a PITA. A lot more work with it than I thought it'd be... Planned 1.5 hours, took closer to 2.5-3.

Guys, don't skimp on tools. Read thoroughly what people recommend you have and make sure you have it!

I didn't have a brake caliper piston compressor or anything of that sort and I ended up having a real bad time with trying to compress the pistons. One would get compressed and the other would pop out. Tried shoving all four pads in trying to compress it... sometimes worked, sometimes didn't.

Little trick about replacing the pads: Press into the caliper when you're putting it in! There is a flap of metal that acts like a spring to press the brake pad back into your hand and will make inserting the pad horribly difficult if you don't realize it! Also, put the screws for the brake pads themselves back in before putting the caliper on. Bad time otherwise... your pad might not be fully seated into the caliper and then you have to try to pull/press it into place... while the caliper is on... bad time.

AND GET THE RIGHT TOOLS. I had to use a 3/8" hex because I didn't have a 10mm. Didn't realize that was mandatory until I had the wheels off and I was like, "Well fuck, I'm already here and setting up the car and having time is half the battle." Worked out... but just barely. Get the right tools! It'll save you a lot of time and frustration really well. You'll also not risk damaging components as much... not everything is actually as strong as you think it should be. (Such as brake pads, very good at abrasion but very bad at impact like having a flat head against them or hitting the ground or anything. They get dented and hurt very easily!)

Torqued the wheels back on at 88ft/lbs but I swear my torque wrench is BS. It didn't feel anywhere near what I'd think of 88lbs of force but who knows. Maybe I'm a beast. Also, some of the wheel nuts were on *very* tight. I had a 30" breaker bar or something of that sort and I was having a hell of a time getting them off. Holy crap. Last people who rotated or put on my new tires really did overkill there. Bad for my rotors!

ANyone know what pad thickness should be? I only saw maybe 4mm difference between new and old. BMW really overdid it... I had so much pad left.

Not sure I'd wait till the ambient temps get hot to make that repair tho!
