Cracked valve cover and OCC?

Local dealer thinks my oil catch can is probable cause for the valve cover being cracked ($1200-1700), but BMW USA warranty guy gives final verdict Wednesday. I do not see how a OCC could in any way cause the valve cover to crack. Anyone else have a similar experience? Of course, if BMW USA refuses to cover it under warranty, I will not have the dealer do it. Too $$$$

Garage List
Hello, hopefully it's not too late but I've had my valve cover leak twice. The second time they found that the valve cover itself was cracked and are replacing it (under warranty thankfully). I spoke with the mechanic yesterday and he said this is something they've been seeing more of lately with the 135i and N54 engine as they age. There is a flat spot on the valve cover between the #2 and #3 pistons that is prone to cracking.

I'm quite worried about this happening again in a few years when I'm no longer under warranty.

$1200-1700!!!

I just had this done, not at the dealership.

The cost on the cover itself was $450 Canadian (right from the dealership)

And if you get it done the cover comes with the gasket, don`t let the parts guy try to tell you to buy the gasket as well ($60).

I have to say though, plastic valve covers WTF!!!

Hate to revive an old thread.
Just had this happen on my N54 335i. Replaced under CPO.
