I made another cold start video of my PE with N54 mid pipes and the PE's y-pipe resonator delete.
Like I have said many times... I LOVE this sound!!! PS: please excuse my dirty car and exhaust tips.

Its too late for that. I'm not messing with the exhaust now. I am happy with the PE sound. Its loud at wide open throttle(WOT) but quiet during cruising speeds. One of the reasons I reinstalled the N54 mids(with secondary cats) is I felt I lost a little low end torque with them. I think under 2K you loose a small amount, but you gain more volume and tq at higher revs - so it is a trade off. I just LOVE the way the PE sounds and just just seems to get better the more miles(kms) I put on the car/exhaust! Dack

Yeah, it's an awesome sound! FWIW, I'm putting my N54 mids back on at the weekend, but that's because my car is too loud/raspy now that I have fitted AR downpipes. I really liked N55 mids with PE rear box though.

Alright, installed the N55 OEM MP's on my N54-powered 1'er, ran into a few little snags with the install, but overall, it was pretty easy. A second set of hands would have been awesome though, when you're just carrying them around, the midpipes aren't too heavy, perhaps 30-40 pounds, but when you're on your back under the car, trying to get everything put into place was a bit tricky. Also, now having been under the car working with the exhaust, I can definitely say that I am not touching the factory DP's, they look like an absolute PITA when you're a jackstand warrior like I am.
I am making a series of two proper comparison videos, one of the stock N54 135i exhaust, and the other with the N55 MP's installed. I'll post a link up to my blog once I get the N55 video edited, the stock exhaust video is uploading now. So look forward to a write up on my experiences and opinions, along with some Go-Pro footage!

^^Thanks for posting that link. This kind of confirms my butt dyno in that the N55 mids while increasing mid and top end power you do loose some low end grunt in the 2K to 3K range. That was one reason why when I installed my PE I went back to N54 mids with the secondary cats.

There is no way that could be felt or noticed as a perceivable difference....

If you rationally know something is wrong or unlikely, you most definitely should ignore people's subjective claims. (i.e. butt dynos)

Ok, thanks for clarifying. It's not the first time I've heard such a claim, that's all. Once was even from a company that makes upgrade parts from our cars.

Car is loud on start up, then quiet in normal driving, but makes a great noise when you're on it. Sounds best in a tunnel or built up area where the sound gets reflected back! Most noticeable difference after the DPs were fitted is the turbo whistle. Can't hear it much with the windows up, but put them down and it sounds like a big rig! |

You really should install the y-pipe with the PE. It sounds sooo good. You will get more pops and gurgling with the y-pipe. And at WOT its sounds marvelous!!!

I took off my 135i N-54 mid-pipes and put on SuperSprint section 1 and 2 without the mid-cats. It has more low end torque than before, as well as more high end power. It is scary fast and now I have to be careful when accelerating from a stop so I don't lose control. Only problem was, without the secondary cats, the exhaust smells bad and often smokes, so my wife won't ride in it with me.

I first installed AA Cat-less Downpipes and a FMIC and aFe cold-air intake. The power increase was fantastic! I had no problem with the smell or smoke at that point. Then I took off the OEM mid-pipe and secondary cats, and put in SuperSprint cat-less mid-pipe from Turner and their section 2 with resonator, the power went up another 10+% and the sound was great at WOT, but THAT is when the exhaust started to smoke and smell. My wife (and I ) couldn't take it, so I reluctantly re-installed the OEM midpipes with the secondary cats. The smell and smoke went right away, (with most of the great sound), but the Downpipes w/o cats don't smell at all!
My next step is to install a Sport muffler to get back the great sound. I know it won't help much with the performance, but the Cobb Access Port will take care of that. I'm guessing I am close to 400hp, and the response is much quicker and almost no turbo lag.

So you have DP's too? ie: no cats at all? Most ppl say that our cars will smoke when fully catless. I think its the turbo seals going bad.
